on an average, how often do you need to change out your caps? me and my roommate just picked up a 2005 golden tee and I'm pretty sure the color has faded much past its original color. id hate to go through the trouble of replacing the caps if it is not necessary.
i have a second issue while i have your attention. every once in a while the screen gets very distorted and wavy. a good smack on the side of the cabinet seems to be the medicine it needs. is this a cap issue or perhaps a loose connection?

it depends on the quality of the capacitor and the type of chassis
some monitors like hantarex suffered much from cap problems,this was mainly down to the quality of the caps and the fact that a lot of caps were near heat sources
in my personal opinion any monitor over 5 years is ready for a few new caps but in your case i believe you have nothing more than some bad solder joints and adjustment issues

You didn't happen to mention the monitor that's in there. For all you know it's something that had been kicking around for a few years before being put in as a replacement. It could have been run ragged in a really hot place.
Especially if it's a 7400/7500 series from WG.

judging by your username you are based in the u.k,therefore your golden tee fore 2005 will be built by electrocoin in cardiff and it will have a hantarex polo 2 auto monitor

Think color problems are rarely caused by cabs. Try some pot adjustment, worked miracles on some of my monitors...
That other problems sounds like loose connectors or bad solderings. Don't bang, it will make it worse....

If it is a GT 2005 cab then it seems a bit early for a cap kit. That is only a couple of years old. Definately try some adjustments first.

Again, the cab may only be a couple years old, but the monitor could have come from anywhere. When I was working street service, you bet your buttons if there was a problem with something on the street it got replaced with something we had in the shop.

This is correct, and common with Golden Tee in particular. These cabs are seen mainly in bars, where they get a lot of abuse. Also, with the series being updated almost every 2 years, there are a lot of conversions out there. (Short lifecycle equals high frequency of conversions.)
