Title: MTC9000 Chassis - Is a Kortek KTN a direct swap?
Post by: arcaic on September 30, 2007, 10:04:33 am
Hi all,

Got a hantarex MTC9000 with an arcing LOPT. I've been given for free a chassis that was supposed to be a MTC9000 but its actually a Kortek of some sort. I can replace the LOPT on the Hantarex but I'd like to use the Kortek chassis as a quick fix as long as it will work.

It looks like this one... http://www.jomac.net.au/images/Chassis/kortek_ktn20.jpg which apparently is a KTN-20. It certainaly has Kortek and KTN on the underside but I cant find any other part number.

It certainaly fits ok, all the cables (including the neck board), but is it really a drop in compatible replacement?

Anyone know?

Also I don't know what size monitor the Kortek Chassis is from. The Hantarex is 20". Will I potentially cause harm to monitor or chassis if the size isnt right (ie using a chassis for a 25" on a 20")?

Thanks

Andy

you need to check the amount of the pins on the neck match to the crt socket on the neck card.also the yoke impedance needs to be the same(i am pretty sure they are) so you may need to do some google checks
if the tube is a different size then the eht will be different so that could cause you problems
your new chassis should say somewhere kortek ktm-f 20 or similiar

Hi Grant,

Mislead you a bit. Its a KTN not a KTM but I cant see anything more specific. I found a picture on the net of the chassis and have modified the original post.

The neck board fits the tube perfectly with the same spacing and number of holes as pins.

Maybe I'm just going to have to 'light the blue touch paper' stand back and see what happens. I'm very confident that the chassis matches the cabling requirements of the cab its just the compatablity with the tube I'm not sure off.

well i think the worst case scenario is
1-wrong tube size then the picture will either be very dark or the chassis will cut out
2-incorrect yoke impedance should at worst blow the crap outta the hot and frame ic
i am pretty sure it will work though
good luck :scared

No No No don't do it! Yoke impedance, yoke wire colors, and yoke connector are all different between these manufacturers.

No No No don't even think of swapping these chassis.

Well for better or worse I gave it a go. I do appreciate the warning Ken.

It works ok. Apart from the Kortek chassis itself exibiting the same issues the previous owner said it had (needs a cap kit) its ok.

Thanks for the help

Andy
