Nice, I hope you lowballed him. Looks really good, but hope you didn't give him the full $500.
enjoy,

$300 + a JAMMA cabinet I got for $125 and removed the 25" monitor from. There was a 25" non-working monitor in it when it went away, but the working one I pulled was easily worth the $125 I paid. So essentially $300 + a FREE cabinet (that had Primal Rage in it...wow) & a 25" non-working QNIC monitor w/cap kit.
About $340 total out of pocket after all was said and done.
-
Sweet Deal !!! ;)
-
Congrats ! That's a lot better than the 500 he asked....think this is a good deal. The cab looks very nice !
No need to say I will watch this thread closely :)
I do hope you try to restore it and not MAME it ::)

Bite your tongue! This is getting restored. MAME...ha!

Frizzle, you REALLY need to write up a "confessions of a coin op addict" article for gameroom magazine. You seriously have a problem. I mean really, you might want to go see a shrink. ;D
Congrats on the SW cab though.

You are telling me. I started by building my first MAME cabinet about a year ago...
...and then it went...
Horizontal MAME cabinet
Vertical MAME cabinet
Joust
Atari Cocktail
Donkey Kong Jr (DDK now)
Sold the Joust
VS Excitebike
Centipede (Multipede)
Turbo Outrun
EDIT: Space Invaders
Primal Rage
Rampage World Tour
Sold Horizontal MAME cabinet (moved MAME PC to Rampage World Tour)
Trade Turbo Outrun for Xmen vs Streetfighter & cash
Trade Primal Rage + cash for Star Wars
or something like that.
EDIT: Added Space Invaders...how can I forget Space Invaders?
-
Maybe we can sign up for group therapy ? Although my list is not that long, but I've scored most of my cabs THIS year...and there are still one or two in the pipe-line that nobody knows about, especialy not my wife shhhhh ;D
-
Good to see you didn't pay the $500 and got some extras...
:applaud:
-
Did you make sure to tell the guy "The monitor was working...must be a fuse". ;D

The guy did an OK job trying to play me. He told me about another guy who was interested in the cabinet...which was true...but I had already heard he wasn't interested. I DID raise my offer slightly...but I didn't go beyond what I determined my MAX offer would be earlier in the day. As a matter of fact, I had wiggle room to go up to $350.00...
Knowing the guy he said was interested wasn't (which he didn't know I had that info)...I stood firm.
My last email to him before he accepted my offer was:
"Hey bro, I need to know about my last offer because if you aren't going to take it, I want to order a monitor from Alva Amusements tonight".
...offer accepted.
-
If you get screen content and the spot killer is lit, you definitely have issues. Strong deal, though, and the cosmetics (which cost a buttload for this game) are all really good. Nice one.
-
Yup...this is going to be fun. I get to learn. I have a sneaky suspicion this is going to be a "winterlong" project of mine. That is OK. It's almost worth the price admission just to have it in the collection looking good (the key word being ALMOST).
-
You better not start hacking on that thing and the only electronics we want to see inside is an original working pcb.
-
I would see no problem with VectorMAME running SW and ESB only. Those PCBs could be completely toasted for all we know.
-
Being I really have no idea what in the hell I am doing or where to start...I am going to wing it and read the 100+ pages of documentation I was able to find and download before I mess with it...or not.
;D
-
Read through the vectorlist archives and see if there is anything on ionpool that helps you, as well. I know the vector monitor faq there should be a huge help.
-
If i remember right the game is really not all that good to play, it's just the Starwars name and how the cab looks that really gets people wanting it. Still a good find though.
-
Now I know tommy has a head injury.
Star Wars and ESB are awesome games.

If you keep in mind the original time period, that game was awesome as all getout. It is still fun to play, even with a mouse. I would love to play it on original equipment.

;D
Check out my SW cockpit thread for lots of info...I did the same as you, READ ! There's a ton of info about this game.
Tommy: You obviously never played it yourself on a real cab....believe me. Before I got mine, I had only played this game on the Atari 8-bit computers. It was just a mediocre game on that machine.
PLaying it on the arcade game itself is a whole different experience. It's the steering yoke, it's the great color vector graphics, it's the awesome sound, it's the challenging game play. We tend to look with 2007 eyes at a game like this. Apart from that you shouldn't, this is one of the games that withstood the test of time.

:notworthy:
i will love to have a SW cab :D...

The Force is weak in this one...

Bite your tongue! The game is extremely fun to play. I probably dumped more dough in to a SW than any other game (except perhaps Dragon's Lair).
-
(except perhaps Dragon's Lair).
Which really isn't that much fun to play.

Again...BITE YOUR TONGUE. Though I agree it doesn't stand the test of time as much as Star Wars. The game, now, gets boring fast. Especially when you can play through. But when it came out and I was learning...damn I pumped dough in to it. But then again, I've played Galaga at so many different places at so many different times that it's likely my coin-sucking king.
-
Eh... for the $1 the arcades I saw charged for Dragon's Lair at the time, it sure didn't look like that much fun.
"hey, that's awsome, real animation! Let's play.. oh... $1.... well, once won't hurt... how do I do this... crap, I got burned... crap I got burned... crap I got burned... wow, $1 for 45 seconds, I really did get burned!"
:laugh2:
-
I'm glad you bought it so I didn't have to. I too JUST missed getting it for free
I wouldn't have a clue where to begin fixing it anyway...although my dad is a video game repair guy...or whatever the official title is.
-

You're in Idaho? Nice. Maybe I know your dad or you?

I'm in Boise (Meridian, actually). I assume you are in the Boise area too by all of the local Cragslist deals you beat me to :laugh2:
I don't have much of a collection. Just a mame machine, a non-working Outrunners in process of being converted to an Xbox driving cab, and an old junky Centipede cabinet (no monitor)that was converted to a World Rally machine before I got ahold of it.
My dad works at Ellis Amusement. He's a retired electronic technician that just works there for a little extra cash and the enjoyment of it.

frizzle powers up the new cab and is confronted by seven vertical lines of red/green and blue :laugh2:

Ask em if he wants to make a few extra bucks and help a fellow KLOVer out by taking a gander at my SW...
:)
I tried talking to Ellis about an old cab back when I didn't have any...they weren't about to deal with the likes of me.
How old are you (if you don't mind me asking).
-
I think you're right. I probably just remember playing it on a console and that's why i remember it not being so good. Don't mind me.

I'm 33...I've lived in Boise for about 10 years. I lived in Alaska before that.
I've actually had decent luck with Ellis (before my dad ever worked there). I've picked up 3 cabinets from them, nothing complete and mostly junk, although I got a nearly complete Outrunners cab with no monitors and a flaky PCB.
I'll talk to my dad and see what he knows about Star Wars machines.
-
He'll probably mention the "Trashifone"
Frizzle, I suggest you put some Star Wars reference in the subject of this thread. Always nice to find it and know what it's actualy about. Just MHO of course :D

Now that tickled me.

OK, I guess you've read up by now......any progress ?

I've been VERY busy ...unfortunately. No time to mess with SW as of yet. Still sitting in the game room lookin purty...
