Title: Original Street Fighter Cabinet
Post by: dondro on August 06, 2007, 01:23:16 am
Hey everyone,

I'm new to this, as you can see from my number of posts, but I am gung ho about getting this going. I've spent the lest four days researching like crazy, and I've gathered up almost all of my parts. I am just having trouble deciding on a cabinet style. I need something that's not too intrusive, but still comfortable for two people to play side by side. I was leaning towards a Dragon's Lair cab, but it's pretty narrow, and would be cramped for two people to play at the same time.

Just browsing the KLOV for cab ideas, I checked out the original Street Fighter cab (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=S&game_id=9803) (I've never seen the one pictured there) and I must say I love it. My only problem is that I don't have a cabinet that I can go and check out, so I wouldn't know the details and dimensions of the cabinet.

Does anyone have any ideas/input about this cab? Would it bee too great a task to take on, as it's such an odd design? Any input is greatly appreciated!

The only problem I see is the curve, but if you could get one, you could trace the other I suppose.

Interesting cabinet. Picture almost makes it look like it has to lean against a wall so it doesn't fall over... Unless you have extensive woodworking experience, I suspect you won't be able to build this cabinet yourself. Hell, I'm not sure I could build it... and I have more woodworking/carpentry/metalworking experience than most people here!

You might be better off trying to add the curved control panel from that cabinet to the Project Arcade cabinet. At least with Project Arcade, you'll have plans for the majority of the cabinet...

I found another picture (http://www.carobinson.com/games/CAPCOM%20-%20STREET%20FIGHTER%201987.JPG) which shows some support at the back, set further in, but it still looks fairly daunting. I think I may just try to attach the curved control panel to another design. That would give me the room I need for two people, and a unique look. I can have a Frankenstein cabinet!

Whats up with the two gigantic buttons on the right CP? :)

Might they be for;
'The dedicated versions of the game used special pneumatic controls that were connected directly to the game board via air hoses. Depending upon how hard the control was hit, the game would choose the type of hit the player character would perform. These controls wore out or would constantly require adjustment due to abuse.'

That cab looks doable, regular cubic cab with a curved side and that curved cp, I think I recall a big blue and yellow curved cab in the projects board sometime ago, anyone with a better memory and search skills that can find it?

Yeah, they switched from the punch pads to the more familiar six button scheme after repeated broken machines due to kids whaling on the buttons as hard as humanly possible. haha.

I was one of those kids!  Well... not really.  I didn't wail on it to try to break it, but I played it hard against many friends.  This is one of the few rare hand/eye coordination games where you truly can work up a sweat. The buttons were very cool.  You could punch them hard, and it didn't hurt one bit.  It almost felt like there was gel behind the button.

Fantastic game.  What I would give to play this game again.

Take it from me, you definately won't wanna build a Dragon's Lair cab if you plan to have a 2 player control panel... It's a tight fit with just one player... hehe

I'd just use the "Project Arcade" design for a comfortable 2P cabinet.

I have to agree with javeryh, it would be cheaper in the long run, plus, you won't have to wait until you can find that style cab... Which I'm sure some one would want a pretty penny for that kinda cab, even in poor shape...
