So i went to radio shack and picked up a 5k pot and wired it up. Sound crackles and does not work. Seems to be the wrong pot. So I still need one to play this game. Anyone have a 5k pot thats wired? I would have never purchased this board if I knew about this issue..
-
I think that you actually need a 50k ohm pot...
-
Or you wired it wrong.
-
If I can get the wiring diagram for this that would be great. I tried every pin and no success. There are only 3 pins on the P5 connector. I even matched my defender cab pot wiring to no avail. Just seemed like the pot was incorrect. Not sure what is correct.. I will try a 50 ohm pot if no one can verify.

Hope this helps: http://crazykong.com/pins/NBAjam.pin.txt

Great thanks
Does anyone know where the connections go on the pot side? There are 3 connections on the pot- which 2 are used?

Is this in an actual NBA Jam cabinet or some other JAMMA cab?
Scroll down a bit on this page for your wiring question: http://sound.westhost.com/pots.htm (http://sound.westhost.com/pots.htm)

Wired it as stated . Did a nice clean solder job and plugged it in the board and it dont work and now niether does this damn board. Piece of crap !!
-
Sounds like you need to double check all your connectors....... the ribbon cable, JAMMA harness, etc.
Do a clean re-seat of all the socketed chips, then go from there.

Piece of crap !!
That's Midway for ya!

I'll try again tonight and try to reset the board. Last night I think that I would have thrown the board like a frisbee.

Did that once. I had to trek through five feet of freshly fallen snow around the back the house and down the hill when I realized that A) I really needed it and B) it wasn't mine.

usually ground is in the middle and the volume +/- signals are on the ends same thing with duel color 3 legged led lights.
the + signal should be on the right side if your facing the actual turn knob the right pin should be + and the left should be - and the middle as gound/nuetral this I am not 100% sure becuase of your pot type but most electroncs I ever used volume up is always turn it right and to turn it down turn it left :dunno
-
I looked at a schematic and the ground was on the left, thats how i wired it. Now I know that it was incorrect for this pot. I wil try your wiring scheme. hell the board dont work so what do I have to lose. I will try to reset it this weekend unless my cap kit comes into play for my defender cab.
-
well if the ground was in the wrong spot after all it would not work at all becuase the signals were not getting any ground also I check a few of my authentic arcade manuals and they have all of the down as 5k volume pot there called a regular 5k pot may not do it and pretty sure a 50k would take some juice lol so make sure your using a 5k volume pot only.
hopefully if you were wrong sending the signal and ground in a reversed manner did not harm anything else this I cannot tell you but if it did and you find a spot were it blew I could probably fix it but try the correct pot first and see what happens.
EDIT: in one of the links above it does state that pin 1 is grouns pin 3 is input and pin 2 is output but down further is also shows and state's that on cetian type's the ground can be in the middle like I was saying I will see if I have any wiring schematics for any games and see if it show how there wire in.

On the back of the pot it is engraved 5k. I will work on this board tomorow as tonight I recapped a monitor. I will keep you posted !

I wired it as stated . Here is what is happening. When I turn the arcade on:
- It passes a rom board tests
- Game starts showing game play rules
- Game instantly goes to a black screen within 10 seconds
- Tried with and without the sound pot to no avail
I will try without the sound board connected next, Any ideas
Without the sound board the game plays fine. Now I either have bad roms on the board or the board needs to be replaced. Anyone know where to get a working sound board for an NBA jam? I just purchased this from another member here and it never played sound since I just owned it.
