Title: Anyone know where to pick up a slot cutter locally?
Post by: stuckpixel on June 28, 2007, 07:50:23 pm
Worst comes to worst I can pick one up on t-molding.com, but do any of you know of any stores that typically carry them? The Home Depots around here don't seem to stock them anymore. I'd like to get the t-molding grooves routed this weekend and I didn't get around to ordering the bit.

Saw one at Lowe's the other day.

I've seen some at the local hardware stores but none carry 1/16"

I had to pick mine up from a local tool specialty shop. If your local home depot/ACE doesn't have them, ask one of the more knowledgeable employees if you have one nearby. Good luck

Most local shops do not have the one you need.   I finally ended up ordering one from T-molding.com after checking out 3 big box hardware and a couple of specialty shops that supply fine woodworking stuff.  (just ordered it this week)

Lowe's has been the only big box store I've seen them in after checking probably a dozen stores total between Menard's and Home Depot.

I would definitely tried lowes. I tried 3 different home depots in my area and had no luck.

Locally where? About an hour north of New York City there is a place (http://www.toolnut.com/). If you had a few extra days, Holbren (http://www.holbren.com/) has great prices, free shipping and only collects sales tax in Florida. Plus if you're a member of the Woodnet forums (http://www.forums.woodnet.net/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=2987280&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1) you get a 10% discount. I have only ordered from them once, they were very fast and I will buy from them again. I've only heard positive things about their service. It's already Friday, so it's probably too late, but you could ask them what they'd charge you for overnight shipping.

Yeah, I mean it's not the end of the world if I don't get it done this weekend. Would be nice but no real big deal.

I have not checked lowes yet, I will probably swing by. Hopefully they have one in, otherwise I'll probably just suck it up and buy one online.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Lowes FTW! They happened to have a 1/16 slot cutter in stock as well as the arbor for it (last one!)

Thanks again everyone. Looks like I will be getting some routing done tomorrow after all.

Looks like Lowes is comming to Canada. ;D

It will be good to give Home Depot some competition.  HD is getting so bad in Canada even a corner hardware store would be competition.
