Title: Vertical display
Post by: southpaw13 on April 20, 2003, 01:45:36 am
Hello, I am trying to find a video card that has hardware video screen rotation.  I want to set up my cab with a vertical display.  I have been looking on a few major video card sellers websites and I can't figure out what the terminology is that they use to discribe this....

Any help?

I have seen other posts in here that say if you have a newer Nvidia card, the latest drivers have rotation software included in them.  I am sure someone will be along shortly to validate this.

Oops, just re-read your post... hardware video rotation?  Not quite sure what you meant, unless I answered it above and you just asked it differently.  :)

Yea the new nvidia drivers allow the rotation, but you have to go out of mame and into all that control panel.... which might be a hassle if you are switching between vertical and horizontal games... i have a philips 15 inch flat screen that allows you to easily rotate the screen to switch between horizontal and vertical display if that helps ???

yes any geforce 4 ti based card will do full hardware rotation. so if you have a vertical only setup you can just keep your desktop rotated.

because mame can handle any resolution it will fill the screen ok and without any loss in framerates.

THANKS, the sad part is that I DO have a GeForce 4 and I can't figure out how to use the vertical display.  It keeps telling me to use the "clone" mode.  From what I understand, this means two monitors only?  Or should I use the DVI adapter to hook my CRT into the other video output?

Can you shed any light on this...

Thanks

That's good to hear!  Maybe I can get one more answer from this board.  Before I buy a Radeon card, I went onto their website and brought up three different manuals for Radeon cards.  The manuals are all very similar, but I can't find where I would actually change the screen to vertical or rotate it.  Which menu does it fall under and is it hard to configure...

Thanks... ;D

How about OLDER nvidia cards? Will a GeForce 2 MX rotate with the latest drivers? (Just wondering, not really of too much use to me since my vertical cab has a Voodoo 3 in it).

Not hard, you right click on the desktop and properties, hit the display tab, then advanced. One of the ATI added tabs (have ATI icon) has rotation options, just choose which way to rotate it.

Thanks for the info, the reason why I asked is because I found a Radeon 7000 for only $40....
If the screen will rotate, then I am going to get it...
