Title: Question for devs - Deternime Alternating/Simultaneous from mame xml?

Is it possible to determine if a 2 player game uses alternating or simultaneous controls from the mame xml data? From what I can tell, the mame xml output does not provide the "Alternating" info which leads me to wonder how some apps (such as MaLa or J5) can determine P2 Sim vs P2 Alt for games not listed in controls.dat.
