Title: Problem with games playing upside down
Post by: berlincam86 on May 26, 2007, 05:17:27 pm
I have a old bad dudes cabinet and when i put a differant game in it it plays upside down. Why does this cabinet do this? Can i fix it without the board having a flip screen dipswitch or am i gonna have to buy a new monitor?

most game boards have a flip switch so all you would have to do is set each board accordingly

VS super mario brothers converted to jamma. I've also had the problem with a taito gameroom classics jamma board which doesnt have dipswitches. And also robocop which has a dipswitch and i had to use it to play in that cabinet.

Not every manufacturer or programmer set up their orientation the same way.  This sometimes results in a different game being displayed upside-down.  You COULD just pull the monitor and rotate it (or the tube) if the brackets will allow that, but there is an easier way.

On your monitor, you have a yoke connector, probably with red, blue, green, and yellow wires (although G07's have red, white, brown, and grey).

The red and blue are for your horizontal orientation and the green and yellow are for your vertical.  If you swap the red and blue wires, your picture will be right side up, but properly mirrored (backwards).  If you then swap your green and yellow wires, it should be fine.

Grant was referring to installing a switch between the connector and the yoke to "switch on the fly" the orientation of the monitor.  This is helpful if you are planning on switching out different games often.  If you plan on leaving this game in it for a while, then just switching the wires would be easier.

If you have a G07, let me know, so I can give you the proper wire colors to change.  You can blow up your monitor if you hook the wrong colors together.

Someone once mentioned you could flip the picture simply by swapping the A/C input wires around, as that would reverse the flow of the AC current and display the picture 180 degrees from original, but I haven't tried that to see if it works.  Wouldn't hurt to try, as A/C isn't polarized and will work either way....

I'm pretty sure that monitor is a wells garner 19k7602. Thats what the sticker said that was in the bottom of the cabinet when I bought it. Does that help?I've just looked at the schematic and according to that there is a red, blue, green, and ground wire at the crt socket connector it does not specify what color the ground wire is and the cabinet is not here to check. But i will check to see as soon as i can. So all i have to do is switch the red and blue then the green and ground and i should be right side up?

No, those are the color input signals wires from the board to the monitor chassis.  You want the 4 wires coming from the tube neck (yoke) to the monitor chassis.  Those are the ones to switch.  If they are on one big connector, you can cut the connector in half between the red/blue and green/yellow and rotate each half and plug back in.

I hope I was clear that the red and blue must be plugged into the same pins they're currently plugged into, just opposite.  Same with the green and yellow.  If you plug the red and blue wires to the pins meant for yellow and green, and vice versa, you risk blowing the yoke, and maybe the chassis....

Yea i get it The red gets replaced with the blue and the blue goes where the red was. The green gets replaced with the yellow and the yellow goes where the green was. Right?
