I have a self-modded PS1. It uses an older chip, but still works perfectly. I never tested any of the very late games made for the PS, but all the FF backup games worked, along with the Mega Man Legends backup games. I remember not being able to get a Japanese Chrono Trigger to work, but after copying it, the backup worked fine.
There was only one problem with installation. For some reason, after all was said and done, when the chip was connected, valid discs wouldn't play. So to bypass this, I stuck a rocker switch in the shell. Functions very nicely.
So I'm a bit curious as to what a console like this is worth. It is an SCPH 5501. It has a parallel I/O port on the back...which leads me to:
I also an older game shark. The GOOD kind. Not that CDX crap. This is version 2.42. (This might have been the final version before the CD "upgrade.") If I'm not mistaken, the CD versions didn't have support for "repeater" codes. I.E. codes starting with "50". I may be wrong about that though.
I'm not selling this yet...Just trying to get a feel on what they're worth, especially the PS.

With emulation available on the PC, XBOX and PSP all of which work quite well I doubt anyone would pay much more than $30-$40. With the addition of having to use a switch to go between retail and backups I wouldn't pay more than $25 maybe.
Just my opinion though. I hope you can get more if you decide to sell it...

I haven't seen a modded PSX go for more than $50 in a very long time, and even then, they usually come with a good amount of accessories/games/whatever, so I'd tend to agree with crashwg.
You can probably get $40 or so for it, but I wouldn't expect a lot more. You may get lucky though, ya never know.
