Title: convince me to buy the kreg master pocket hole system...!
Post by: fixedpigs on April 29, 2007, 12:01:45 am
ok...

so i was able to snag the master pocket hole system from amazon for a total of $111.20 at the beginning of the month...

i haven't actually paid for it yet...it's just been sitting there awaiting my payment by check... ;)

the more i think about actual joints that i'd be making...i think i'd prefer mortise/tenon or tongue/groove or the like...

obviously the pocket hole is fast and easy...and the result would be the same aesthetically with any butt joint appearance(mortise/tenon)...

hmm...i think i'm rambling...

please give me good reasons to get the pocket hole kit...-=)

You should buy the Kreg because it's cheaper and faster than any of the alternatives and it yields decent strength if you glue the joints in addition to the screws. If you think, say, mortise and tenon is faster or better I'd encourage you to give them a try... then buy the Kreg once you get frustrated.

It also speeds up construction of things like face frames for cabinets, cabinets themselves, drawers, small tables, jigs, workbenches, etc. Go for it. If you want some more convincing get one or all of these videos (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hi/103-2223005-5317408?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=kreg+dvd&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go). I have all three and the table one is my fav.

I use a Kreg pocket hole system all the time. I don't have the master system but it sounds like you are getting it at a great price.

Like NiteWalker, I have used it on many different projects. It seems it was made for face frames, ut i have used it to construct and also repair tables and chairs. They hold my router table together. Made and repaired drawers and cabinets...etc.

You can even get/make plugs for the pocket holes that will add a decorative touch, almost like an oval inlay.

Honestly, its a great thing and you'll find more and more uses the longer you use it.
