Not really a project, but I thought I'd post here to show the results of my work for my driving cab.
I have a pole position stand up cab I'm turning into a driving box, only the stand up version only comes with a gas pedal and I wanted both a gas and a brake.
I found a guy the was getting rid of a bunch of stand up pedals, got them home and started tearing them down.
I copied the dimensions of the hole in the bottom plate of the pedal over to the opposite side to make room for the other pedal, cleaned all the rust and paint off of everything (taking the pedals apart is a pain!), and primed/painted.
All I need now is some of that nonslip tape for the pedals, and it's ready for wiring!
I'm thinking maybe a skateboard shop will have small amounts of the tape, I don't need too much, any other ideas?

Lowes has the tape you need. I believe it is called safety tape. I think they sell it in packs of short length strips.

Thanks!
It just so happens they recently opened one a couple blocks from where i work, looks like I have a luchtime trip to make :-)

Radish,
what are you running in the cabinet. MAME? Just interested how you are wiring up the steering wheel and shifter as well as the gas and brake.

Steering wheel gets the x-axes, pedals get the y-axis. That is how all steering/pedal combos work.

Yep, mame, using an apac.
The cabinet was originally hacked up with a final lap 3 board, a 270 wheel and a happ hi-low shifter, but the same guy I got the pedals from was scrapping 4 standup pole positions with water damage, and I got a good CP with the original 360 wheel and shifter.
So now I'm doing a mouse hack for the 360 wheel optics, and using the button inputs on the apac for the shifter, etc..
I like many of the 270 wheel games, but it seemed wrong having a pole position cab that couldn't play pole position :-)

I guess many of us would like to have some detail on this once you're done and got it working, looks quite interesting!

Just a quick update to my driving cab..
I managed to get ahold of an Atari 4 speed shifter and got it installed this weekend.
The original square hole in the CP for the hi-low shifter was at the wrong angle for the 4 speed, go figure:-)
After marking the correct hole and a bit of dremel tool work, the shifter is installed and working great!
I also put in a 360 wheel and did the mouse hack on it, seems to be working fine, though I'll need a new wheel since this one has a big part busted out of it.
I printed the center logo from arcade art on standard paper for a test, looks pretty good, so once I get the final wheel, I'll have to find a better material to print it on.
I'm currently going through all the racing games to find out which will work with a 360 wheel since the lists out there are incomplete because some games listed as 270 allow 360 wheels with a dip switch setting.
Cheers!

Sweet find on the other cabs and spare parts. Do us all a favor and publish your list when complete. Go Driving Cabs !!!!!!!
