All right, I've got a PS2 that has a bunch of problems.
It seems to eject repeatedly. It will never keep the disc in the system.
There is no video at all. I do hear the sound of the PS2 startup.
I cannot hear the DVD drive spinning at all.
I opened it up, and noticed it has a mod of some kind installed. This would have been probably 5 years ago. I don't know what chip it is, but I'm sure the install was screwed up which caused these problems.
While this was open, I noticed that the ribbon cable reciever for the controller/mem card is broken off, so this ribbon will not sit properly (so, even if the above problems were fixed, this still wouldn't work).
So, I figured I could just remove the chip completely and see what happens, but there is no point since the controller input is broken. I guess the question is:
Are these problems fixable? Are these problems WORTH fixing? I would like the mod to work (or have a new mod installed) since I have a few import PS1 games, but I guess it working like normal would be a good start.

If all you're wanting to do is play some import PS1 games, it would be cheaper getting a PS1 and putting a chip in it instead.

Well, I do have some PS2 games that I would like to play. I have a working PS2, so the easiest thing to do would be to get a chip put in that to play all my PS2 & PS1 games.
But in terms of the broken PS2, should I just throw it away?

Pulled it apart today. It's a V7 PS2, with a 'Magic 2' mod chip (V3). I checked the solder points, and didn't notice anything bridged. I didn't touch any of the points, since the soldering skills required are well beyond me...
