Title: ROM Management Tool
Post by: SavannahLion on April 13, 2007, 02:35:44 am
Not a whole lot irks me with software. But one of the things that does is trying to keep up with a moving target like MAME. Another is killing support for a file system and no obvious method of switching to a supported file system short of duplicating the hardware and copying every byte over while losing important infomation like who the ---fudgesicle--- owns that file.

But I digress, I earmarked an interesting tool that did just that... manage my MAME files, not switch to a new file system, but now that I need it, I can't figure out what I did with the link.

The way I understood how the tool works is, I basically hand it the set of updated files and tbhe tool merges it with the existing file set. Kind of like CVS or SubVersion but specific to MAME and just as confusing to use.

Anybody know the name?

I can't remember what each one does, and I don't know if I quite understand what you are looking for, but the tools I have acquired for working with ROMs are clrmamepro (http://www.clrmame.com/), romcente (http://www.romcenter.com/)r and mcm (http://www.mameworld.net/mcm/).

Maybe one of them is what you had and lost?

I spotted MCM and it seems to be more of a tool to manage existing roms. ie, to get rid of classes of roms like pornographic games.

One is blocked from work and the other won't load. I'll have to check them out from home. clrmamepro sounds familiar though.
