Title: SNK LS-30 lubrication?
Post by: MaximRecoil on April 05, 2007, 05:59:54 pm
My LS-30's are squeaky, but they move fine. Looking down into the pivot area I see plastic/nylon/whatever, so I'm not sure what kind of lubrication (if any) should be used. Since LS-30's are not easily disassembled to a degree that would allow you to clean out that pivot area, I'm thinking that any wet lubrication (oil or grease) might do more harm than good in the long run, once it got dirty.

Should they be left dry or should they be lubricated? If lubricated, what should be used for lubrication?

Max,

Taking them apart and cleaning them would be the best solution, ensuring that pivot parts are smooth and free of burs.

Barring that, if you wanted to try some manner of lube, I'd use something that isn't likely to react with the plastic parts of the stick, and something that actually dries so it won't  gum up after a few months.  The only thing that comes to mind would be silicone spray lube. it dries and won't leave a gummy mess and it isn't likely to react with the plastic.

Thanks. I went and bought some 3M 08897 Silicone Lubricant (Dry Type) and that seems to have done the trick.
