Title: Pulsar in "good" condition worth $200
Post by: Jeff AMN on March 23, 2007, 01:16:50 am
I found a working Pulsar in good condition for $200. The CP is flawless, the bezel is perfect, and the monitor is in great shape. The cab has a little damage on the top back, but otherwise it looks great.

So, would Pulsar be a good deal at $200? I'm thinking of picking it up this Saturday if it all works out.

Never played it. Never heard of it. If you want a "rare" game in your collection (conversation piece?) then ask yourself, is it worth $200 to you?

Check it out in Mame and see what you think. If there was a "rare" game in good condition here I might snap it up even if it wasn't the greatest game in the world.

Interesting find and for $200 working I would pick it up.

Well, I played it in MAME and it's good fun. I don't see why it's not a more widely known game, but I guess there were tons of games coming out and some fell by the wayside.

I'm waiting for the seller to get back to me. I'll probably end up picking it up.

Haha, are you the seller?

I've ran into a snag and want to take both, but a little issue as come up on my end that might keep from from getting either. I'll know within the next day or two what I'll be able to do.

No, but I search for arcade on KSL near daily while at work.

I think every ad for a machine I have seen recently has either contained the phrase "rare" or "collectors"

If you want to buy the machines and store them in my garage, I don't have a problem with that

Heh, storage isn't the issue. Thanks for the offer though.

Besides KSL and Craigslist, is there any other decent resource for cabinets in the area? My wife and I are planning  a road trip down to Las Vegas just so I can check out and pick up a Ms. Pac-Man cabinet.

KSL seems to be the only one with much.  I check craigslist regularly and every once in awhile I will also check the classifieds for the standard and the slc/desnews but have yet to see much there or their search really sucks.

I have thought about maybe trying Nickelcade to see what they have for sale, and I know tataka use to have tons of games at the Lagoon arcade that aren't there anymore.  I don't know if it would be worth contacting them or not though.

Nickelcade will sell anything they have, for the most part. Their asking price is usually too high, however. I wanted a Ms. Pac-Man that was in pretty good shape (still needed work), and they wanted $1,500 for it.

Yeah, I have heard and seen that as well as far as nickelcade goes.

I guess if I wasn't lazy and had more money I would check with Tataka though as I know they run the arcade inside lagoon which is mostly racing/driving/skiing etc games now and they also did all the games at cherry hill as well.  I wonder what happened to all the other cabs they used to have.

I've never tried Tataka.

Mountain Coin will try to rip you off badly. They want $500 and up for even broken games. Struve can be pretty awesome. I scored a working Street Fighter II for $300 last year. It was a bit more than I wanted to pay, but it was my first dedicated cab and it was in perfect working condition. They're good about letting you poke through their warehouse as long as you call first and ask nicely. They also gave me a Blitz cab (no board) for free last year that's home to my MAME cab.

Thanks for the info.  Sometimes it's hard to tell other people sources as you don't want to be outbid on something locally.  I know I have seen a few other Utah guys around on this board as well.  I really wish there would be an arcade auction here.  If there is, I sure hope I hear about it before hand.

Yeah, it's tough hunting down cabs around here. However, if I do end up road tripping for that Ms. Pac-Man, I'd be open to bringing another cab or two back for other Utah collectors if they found something that interested them. When (and if) I plan on going, I'll make a post to see if we can draw other Utah collectors out of hiding.

What's KSL?

Local NBC affiliate in Utah.  They have a classifieds section on their website(ksl.com) that is used by lots of people.
