If anyone has this problem (which can be cured by a registry tweak mentioned on our site) could they try downloading the new version of WinIPAC from www.ultimarc.com/download.html and installing this instead of doing the registry tweak. I am waiting for test results on whether the new version kills this problem for good.
The problem is caused by the registry getting corrupt when devices are swapped from one USB port to another. Its a Windows issue really (incidentally fixed in Vista) The older WinIPAC had a workaround which only worked until re-boot. The new version should work around it permanently.
I am finding it difficult to reproduce the problem so difficult to test....

Just tried the new version and it fixed my mini-pac/pc setup.
I have a dell 4550 that would not recognize the minipac after reboot/shutdown if I made any changes to the button layouts through Winipac. Basically I'd have to do the registry fix every time I changed the button config, and this wasn't a problem for me since I wasn't planning on any on-the-fly changes, not yet anyways.
But now after uninstalling the old version and installing the new I can configure the button layout and it will recognize the minipac and all changes on reboot/startup. Perhaps I didn't follow the Winipac installation instructions (I left everything plugged in) but my 2 Ultrastiks stopped working on reboot/restart after installing the new version, and wouldn't work in mamewah unless I first used the Ultramap software. However, uninstalling the 2 unidentified HID's under Device Manager and then hitting "scan for hardware changes" on that directory fixed that and now everything is working fine :woot
