why move them to seperate folders? most fe's parse listinfo so they know if it is vertical or horizontal game and can launch a game with seperate settings for each.

As of version .67 this is no longer an issue as auto rotate is an option in mame.

Sigh, limited minded people ;)
What if your cabinet was only vertical, and you didn't ANY horizontal games. You can filter and delete the horizontals out.
Yeah, MCM could do this too. I just found it interesting.
I'm going to do that for my cocktail cabinet. My cocktail cabinet is only going to do vertical games as I have my upright for horizontals. Heck, I might then take off verticals off the upright! Oh wait, two player simutaneous like 1942 need an upright :) Though you "could" play it upside down with it scrollign at you, that would take some getting use to!

Thats exactly why I did the vmove.bat, I'm putting together a cocktail cabinet but I don't have the space for the horizontal roms, not that they'd be all that playable on a vertical monitor anyways.
I've gotten a good response from people, sounds like most people are happy that they dont have to manually go through their roms folder and delete the horizontal roms. I was looking for another way of doing it for a long time, but I never had any success finding an answer.
The cocktail will be finished any day now. Damn its gonna be sweet ;D

This is exactly my plan too...someday.

I have been looking for just such a tool, so I think it's great.
As I plan out my next cab it is going to be vertical only. I only want to run vertical games on it.
Now, thanks to JoyMonkey, I can sort them out easily!

It would also be great if it could separate games by 4-way, 8-way, or analogue control as well. Sortinfo doesn't seem to know about all games (as far as I can tell). Would be even greater if it knew which "trackball" games really used a trackball, which had a spinner, which were light gun, which had analogue sticks, and which had normal joysticks, but which MAME insists on calling trackball for some reason (Taito games especially).

I've started putting together a BAT that seperates roms by control method, but like Paigeoliver says, some games show up incorrectly in SortInfo.
For some reason it thinks all PlayChoice10 games and lightgun games ???
There are a few other problems like this. I'll try and fix them as best I can. Unfortunately, it can't tell what roms are analog controlled. But it does its best.

The sort-by-control-method batch file is up now at:
http://mame.joymonkey.com/vmove.html
There might still be some games in the trackball category that need to be put into their correct category, but I don't have the time to sift through it right now.
If anyone else wants to fix it please send me a copy.

This is brilliant... I was only thinking of this last week. I just had to say thank you guys!

Well, if the controls.dat projects gets going again that could be added :)

That is a VERY useful .bat. I have one machine that has a rotating monitor and one fixed for the classic verts like galaga, pacman, Donkey Kong etc. This file will save me HOURS of manual work.
GREAT JOB

Wait did he say we are small-minded?
