Are there any vertical oriented animated layouts for Atomic FE?
-
With Atomic you can use all layout in the orientation you want.
So you can use an Horizontal one , in a vertical mode and the resolution you want. (Atomic strecht and rotate the layout for you).
Of course if you use a Horizontal one in vertical mode, the image ratio will change so the layout aspect change a little bit.
You have some layout designed for vertical that are animated on my website.
verticalaubrel1 and verticaltokagehideto1 are animated. (even if you don't see the animation on the website)
But you can also easily adapt an existing horizontal layout to vertical using AtomicLayoutEditor , or do one yourself.

When I attempt to run an animated layout running horizontally (via ATI's control panel), all is well, but when I attempt to run the same layout in vertical mode (again, via ATI's control panel), I get a black screen...and nothing else...which requires a CTRL-ALT-DEL to get out of....?
-
But why you use ATI panel to rotate the front end?
Let your windows in horizontal mode. Open AtomicManager.exe and on the general tab for "screen orientation" just choose "Vertical ->" or "vertical <-" , save and exit , and run Atomic.exe . It will be in vertical mode.
-
No wonder you had your FE's crashing. The FE's you were testing have rotation built in, your not supposed to use the ATI control panel to rotate your screen. You will have to remember to add the option in Mame to rotate that aswell.
-
The problem is that I NEED windows rotated as well. When I drop back to windows, it needs to be in VERTICAL MODE...not just in the front end. Any idea how this is accomplished with AtomicFE, or GameEX?
Is there any way to change to vertical mode on the fly when exiting either of these two front ends so when I exit to windows, it is in vertical mode?
It's looking more and more like I will have to configure MAMEWAH for this cabinet as well as it seems to be one of the few FE's that supports rotating via windows...
-
Yep, if you mainstream the CAB, you need to stay on vertical.
I did have the same problem in Arcade Music Box in ealier versions, but I got it fixed, before I lost the source. I remember it crashed to.
It pretty normal the desktop is rotated as well for mainstream issues. Otherwice it hard to see, what you doing in windows.
So authors of AtomicFE and GameEX (as I saw on a other thread): I hope this bug got fixed, so it can been used regaardless window desktop is rotated or not.
You can also look on MALA wich as was intended for use with vertical monitor. But mamewah is also a great frontend, when it configurated correct.
NB. Sorry about this offtypic.

nice layout - I'll give it a try.
I have a few questions if someone can help please;
1. with this layout I see that short mame attract avi file are played on the screen when a game is selected from the list. With the layout is it possible do that if you have say 100 games in the list and 50 of those games have avi files that can be played on the screen when selected, and the other 50 games do not have avi files but screen shots, can Atomicfe using this layout play on the screen the avi files when selected, and the other games just show the screen shots?
2. Is it passible for atomicfe with this layout to only show the games in the fe list which only have avi files frm a list of many roms/files that dont have avi files? - ie option button?
Thanks

Yes, you can. If Atomic does not find the avi (or can not play the AVI for any reason like bad codec) it displays the snap instead.

Not Automatically. But you can make a game list yourself that contains only games for which you have AVI , and one where you have only snap and you can switch.

Just FYI I run iRotate on my vertical monitor for the same reasons (I want Windows oriented right so I don't kill my neck during maintenance mostly) and I run Mala just fine.
The thing is though, if you use iRotate or the like, you're not using a vertical front end, just a horizontal one with a different aspect ratio. Vertical implies rotated, which you aren't. So any front end will work fine probably, but you might need your own skin to fit the ratio. My Mala skin is a custom job that's sized to 480x640 for instance.

When you rotate windows, said you were in 640x480, what is the resolution given by windows for the desktop after the rotation?
480*640 or still 640x480 ?
May be FrizzleFried , you could try to enter as resolution for Atomic 480x640 in Horizontal mode , and try to run it (after having rotated your desktop) .
-
windows report 480x640, so you could do some checking when if Y is bigger than X.
It seen he now use mala, since it diddent have these problems, and do the rotation check.
-
Thanks.
If think the problem he has is due to that.
If he set the resolution for Atomic in 480x640 in horizontal it will work , i guess.
But i will try to detect that automatically on the next version. Should not be a big deal.
-
I am still not 100% certain which FE I am going to use for this cabinet...I am leaning toward MALA now, but I will mess around with Atomic FE some more...
I have 4 or 5 FE's on the cabinet now...playing with each.
-
I like AtomicFE mainly because I got it working almost immediately. Second of all, it works good. If you guys haven't, you need to check it out.
-
also all graphics modes reported when used in vertical would report that, like 480x640, 600x800 etc.
You should trying yourself, if you have ati or nvidia and do the driver to rotate 90 degree. It harder to blindfixing like that, if you cant test.
This is what I did, and... yep crashed my own app, that day I found the bug (and fixed that).
So you are not alone about it. It so it should no hard to detect wich way desktop is rotated.
