So I picked up a version 1 Genesis yesterday and it didn't come with the RF modulator. I tried using the RF modulator from my SNES and I didn't get anything on the screen. Are they compatible or do I have to get the Sega specific model?
Thanks,
Scott

First are you certain the gene is working to begin with?
second id say the snes brand wont work since they would not want cross platform compatibility.

I'm not sure the Genesis works, but since I only have the SNES modulator that's all I can try. I would have thought that RF modulators weren't specific to a particular console. But there's a guy here at work that has a version 1 rf modulator and Genesis that I can borrow. So I should find out tonight what's up with my stuff.

I use the rf unit that came with my Genesis for the SNES and it works fine.

There's nothing proprietary about the RF adapters other than sometimes the console end plug.

i use an nes rf modulator and an nes ac adapter on my model 1 genesis
i wouldn't recommend using the power connector unless you have an aftermarket universal one though (which i do)

So it turns out the RF switch onboard the Genesis has a loose connector. If I move the SNES modulator around a little bit when it's plugged in, the picture comes right up. Guess I need to do a little surgery to it. BTW, if anyone has a dead version 1 Genesis, or just the shell I'd be interested in it. This one has some large cracks on the back and I'd like to make it all pretty before I mod it.

It would be cheaper, probably, to find another Genesis. They are everywhere and all still fully working. You go to flea markets and Genesis consoles scatter when you turn on the lights.

I know I know, that would just require me to leave my house on the weekend and go brave the fairgrounds. Stupid fairgrounds.....
