But I don't have a name for it, so I'm stuck on a marquee design :P
Frosty's New Arcade (http://arcade.tomvanhorn.com/newarcade/)
Anyways, check it out and let me know what you think - the website looks terrible, but I'll fix that up in the future.
Here's one of the pics:

wow... that's really awesome looking...
great job thus far frosty!
can't wait to see the finished product.
The battlezone/rotary CP is my favorite one, the tron one is cool too but has been done before (not that's a bad thing.. just pointing out why I like the bz panel best)

Thats just beautiful!!
*sniff sniff*
I'm all verklempt!
Talk amongst yourselves.

looks great!
any pics of it rotating? Are you following 1UP's design?
-
ohhh my..looking great Frostillicus ! :D
Its very nice and clean...
are you adding the sides like ultimate arcade 2 for so you could move around?
I REALLY like that SF panel with cool artwork..very nice job on that.. :)
-
Ok, are those Teleporter sliders (from the original Star Trek series) in the upper right hand corner!? ;D Looks really cool!
-
Thanks for the kind words everyone :)
CitzFish: Yeah it's like 1UP's, with the 3 panels. I just changed some of the measurements and I'm using 3/4" for everything. The cabinet profile looks a little different (on paper anyways), and the rotating structure is different. I salute him for a great design.
Snaaake: You're right - I made it so I could 1) build it easily in my apartment and 2) easier to move around.
Dave_K.: How did you guess? ;) j/k my geekness doesn't extend quite that far. I'm more of a SW fan myself....

about that Battlezone/rotary panel...
I like the design, it seems very efficient and might work for me. I didn't read through anything yet, but I'm assuming the rotaries are LS-30s...how does that setup work for two-sticks-per-player games (Robotron, Smash TV)? Since I'm planning to do a 4-player setup on one panel, I probably won't have to worry about it, but, well, you know....

Would it be possible for you to take another picture of the SF CP art at a more direct angle? On the website it looks like you were trying to show the translation from the 3d to real life by using the same angle.
It looks like the colors are a little washed out and I was wondering if it was the art or the light/viewpoint, or something you had done on purpose, is this a downside to the material you used?

I took it with my 35mm camera w/flash (I don't have a dig cam) and the colors got a little washed out in the pic. However, the colors on all the overlays are very bright and vibrant - they are very close to the original RGB, but of course will never be the same since they were printed CMYK.
X-O: Yeah they are LS-30's - very nice little sticks. They don't have as much throw as, say, comps or supers, but they are fine for most things. They hit the diagonals well - I just would'nt recommend them for fighting games.

You have 2 joysticks per player, does that mean you had to use an I-Pac 4? I'm trying to get my head around this. I'd think you'd have to.. am I right?
*shakes cobwebs loose from brain*
-
you are correct, Brax :)
I had an IPAC4 so I was able to use that to connect all the joysticks. I'm still messing with the 'controller' files mame uses for each game. And I"m still in the the setup-wiring phase because not all the joysticks are responding...hoping it's just a broken ground or something.
-
That sucks! being able to play any game just by turning the panel...PFFFFFT thats a horrible idea!
(Note theses remarks are made out of envy..Looks Great!)
-
Here are some closups of my 2 of my panels (the tron one is mostly black). They aren't sharp because I'm really close but the colors look pretty good I think. I'm like 2 inches away from the lexan in these - you can see some plastic dust and debris I've yet to get rid of.

I have some controller file hacks on my site if that helps. Like the buttonX.ini. You make a button6.ini and a neogeo.ini to map out that first panel automatically for alot of games.

I saw those a long time ago - I think I even emailed you a few times asking about the .ini files (back when I was very very clueless instead of my current semi-clueless state :) ) They helped a lot and I'm going to give them another try with the latest version of mame. Thanks for working on them they are really handy for quick ctrlr changes for lots of games at a time.

That artwork is BEAUTIFUL! Very nice, Frosty!

Love your Battle Zone control panel Frostillicus, excuse my ignorance but I am worried that I have not included rotary sticks in the plans for my cabinet as I have'nt played any games that use them, I was wondering if you could list some of the games that use them so I can check them out to determine if I need them on my cabinet.
Many thanks,
RetroBorg

Thanks Sasquatch! ;D
Retroborg - there aren't that many LS-30 (the little yellow sticks) games - but here is a partial list from a previous thread (http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=333;start=0). Do a search up top for 'rotary' or ls-30. the ls-30s handle well, but aren't too great for fighting games and the click is really loud. But they'd make great player 3 or 4 sticks.
