Hi there , I'm total novice at all this but I had mame 32 running fine on my pc , but when me and a mate tried a few frontends ( didn't get any to work )my games won't work now ? I un installed it and installed it all again a few times ( tried different versions of mame ) it does nothing when I right click and play game . When I audit all games it recognizes my roms but just won't play , not sure what we've done . I've just installed version 0.111 but thats the same . can anyone help I'm going to end up watching soaps!
I know I should have left well enough alone , but the fontends looked pretty good.

Your ROMs have to match your MAME version: use a ROM manager to check if they match. Clrmamepro seems to be the most popular, you can get it here:

Also, it may be your mame32.ini is screwed up. I would delete it - it will get regenerated when you run Mame32 again, and hopefully you are good.
Did you check out AtomicFE's plug and play modules? All you need to do is install AtomicFE, install a plug and play module, and copy your ROMs to the folder it lists. No configuration is required. Check out my link to the documentation in my signature below...

Alternatively you can try GameEx, you simply run the Setup Wizard, select the emulators you want and it will automatically download them for you. Then just select the emulator config you want and your set. Couldn't be easier.

As Havok said, make sure your version of MAME matches your version of ROMs.
Next, I would suggest you pick one front end that you want to get working and we can help you get it up and running. Are you getting any particular error messages or anything?

HooPZ believe it or not I agree with you 100%. This is the first time I've come into a thread and recommended GameEx like this, but it's because I'm so sick of hearing Havok do it.
This is what is happening on a regular basis here. And in most cases it's not a problem, but when Havok goes on about "Atomic is the best documented FE IMO", because he wrote the documentation for it, or it is the best because it has this feature or that feature it really starts to get stupid (especially when most FE's have the features he goes on about). Look at Mala for example, it's one of the best documented FE's out there, or even God forbid I mention GameEx, is well documented too. Who say's that Atomics Plug and Play is better than the GameEx Setup Wizard? It's all debatable but the difference is I don't come into every thread saying it is.
I'm getting sick of it myself, but it's not until we get more people thinking the same way as you HooPZ, we will continue to hear propeganda from the likes of Youki and Havok.

Just trying to help a novice out, and plug and play modules make that simple. I also offered some suggestions to fix what the OP is using. He stated he tried a bunch of front ends out. For all we know, AtomicFE was one of them. I know it, and I can support it.

Sorry Havok, I forgot your just trying to help with your ballanced and well formulated understanding of the arcade scene and all the software available.
My contribution to this thread is don't believe the hype. Try out FE's based on your needs from the wiki, then when your happy with one, post any questions about them. You will get plenty of help with specific questions related to a particular FE. If your not specific, you will get posts from salesmen trying to sell you their FE's for ego status.

I guess I should add more. Please post which front end(s) you started with and want to use. When you try and start a game, does anything happen (ie screen changes, error messages, nothing at all)?

thanks guys , I've tried atomic fe v018 ,I downloaded the arcade plug n play and put my roms in the roms folder but when I try to play a game it says "plugnplay\arcades\selection\FullList.txt does not exist, Please check your config File using AtomicManager.exe " :dunno ,my roms are version 0.89 which worked fine with a few versions of mame32 I had , until we messed about with it :cry:, on mame32 nothing happens when I try and play a game , no message or anything.

That file should be located in the plug and play's rom folder. Perhaps it was deleted when you copied the roms over? Try copying the attached file to your plug and play's rom folder - which depending on your installation may be in a different place, but by default it should be located in C:\AtomicFE_v018\plugnplay\arcades_simple\roms.

Hi , I opened the attachment , its in notepad , I selected all , copy and went to the rom folder but it won't let me paste , is it because it is in notepad or do I have to do something else?

Weird. I would do a complete uninstall and re-install then. Uninstall the plug and play module first, then uninstall AtomicFE. Both uninstalls can be accessed from Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.
After the re-install you should be able to just fire up Atomic, and everything works.

I had downloaded the arcadesenhanced_angelscry.exe version the first time , now to load all my roms , snaps etc , thanks very much Havok.
Is this similar to mame32? can you get a working list or favorites list to save going through all the majong etc?

Mame32 is just another front end: just more windowsish. They do basically the same thing. You can create a favorites list directly in Atomic, and you can also filter the list that is there to exclude categories like mahjong games, and the such. I've got to run for now, but check out my documentation linked in my signature. If you still have questions, I'll be online maybe late tonight, or tomorrow...

Hi , Is there a way to get snaps for the ones I don't have , like with mame I think you press f12 during the game and it adds the snap? I looked through the document but never saw it or just missed it , Atomic FE is working great for me :cheers:
