It was a cool idea but I think in reality most of us have more important obligations to fullfill. I being one of them. My caffeine addiction is at the top of the list. It is a cool idea but would be just a HOG of an execution. Thanks for all of the positive input though!!

realistically.. I'm sure there are alot who would like to go, but other obligations would prevent such a thing to become reality... I hear even the local meet ups are a PITA to organize....

Central USA may be a little far for some of us... Maybe you could split it up into regions :dunno
North East, South East, Central, Midwest, West Coast, North West, Texas...
Could find major cities in each region to host the event...
Just a suggestion...

I Would have to agree with you Mission Control but I believe if this idea got into the "right heads"...Well I would LOVE to see someone run with the idea cause ANYTHING is possible man...If you can dream it, you can build it!

I think the best would be to split in two...But what do I know. 1 in Vegas maybe...1 in like Philly. Something like that...Cause you would want to keep it BIG. That would be my hope!!

It would definitely be fun but the logistical issues are just HUGE. Just moving my cab from one room to the other takes me weeks what with getting motivated and all. I would show up if you all brought your cabs though. :cheers:

I think the best thing to do would be to try and organize a local, or state club. I know a few guys here in WV who are in a pinball club. They all have kick ass game rooms, and each month they go to a members house to chat, play, and eat. Something like that for us would be neato.
Unfortunately, there are only 2 other guys near me who even give a crap about arcade games, and I doubt there is another one of you guys for at least 4 hours.

Ugghhh. It would suck to organize but friggin' FUN to ATTEND!
Maybe someone would have the strength to go for it (orginization) ...ya never know. If someone did, I would load my game up and be there for sure and what the heck, at any level for that matter. City, State, Region or Country!!

I love the idea, but it will never happen. Not ever. There's just way too many hurdles to overcome for a meeting like this. Local groups may be doable, but even then, you're likely to find very few people willing to MOVE their cab.
Also, not sure if you know it or not, but there is a meet-up forum here to organize things like this, although usually much smaller scale than your grand vision.

I really like this idea, and I suggest Orlando as a location for a multitude of reasons: Plenty of locations that could host an event of this size, lots of other things to do in town, a couple of really good arcades here, AND I only have to drive across town!
Another consideration is that there might be quite a few who would attend (especially if it happens in the summer when those with kids are more inclined to travel to the land of Disney) just to see all the cabinets and to talk to like-minded people. And if we could get vendors like GroovyGameGear.com and Ultimarc.com and the like to set up booths, and maybe have a keynote by one of the MAME guys, and some how-to seminars, and raffles and door prizes and high-score competitions we could really make it an event worth attending, whether you bring along your cabinet or not.
C'mon! Who's coming to MAMECON '07??
(I briefly considered "CABCON", but was afraid we'd be overrun by confused taxi drivers :dizzy:)

As someone who has helped organize the New England meetups...I have to say, I wish you the best. Anything is possible, but this idea would be *extremely* difficult to pull off. Just getting people to bring themselves has been hard enough to organize. :angel:

What's nice is we will keep the poll going and find out the overall concensus.
We all realize that it would BE VERY DIFFICULT to say the least...We'll live the dream through this post though, vicariously!

I think we could start a giant BYOAC "Get Together". If we set a time/date say May 20, 2008 and a place maybe St. Louis, Missouri. Then if we held the event annually I bet it would start out small, but in the future people would be able to plan the annual BYOAC "Get Together" into their schedules. So the event would just grow in size.
Minnesota BYOAC members did something like this recently...
When did this happen? I don't remember hearing anything about this.

I've been thinking about building one for a long time now. Two of my friends are almost done building their cabs so it's about time to get my butt in gear and build one myself ;D

lies..... I've been here since May 21, 2004 and my damn cabinet hasn't built itself yet.... although I have found EE quite entertaining...
long story short... if you want to build a cabinet stay away from......... oh look a shiny button.......... cool........

I voted 'yes' in that I'd GO to such an event, but load up a cab and drive it somewhere? Not gonna happen.
I wonder if people would be more willing to meet to play actual vintage cabs rather than Mame cabs.

That event was more of an art show than a BYOAC gathering, but I did get to meet NOP(Jeff). He brought his superb Galaga cocktail to the show. There was a ton of neat art related to video games. Also, I was able to try a Atari 2600 at the show.
If this big BYOAC "Get Together" doesn't fly we should try and hold one just for Minnesotans. I think there are at least 20 active members from Minnesota and hopefully more. Your cabinet is looking awesome, I can't wait to see it finished.

BYOAC GLOBAL EVENT, broken off into CONTINENTS. Must be SYNCHRONIZED to the date or it wouldn't be the same!! IE...yours wouldn't count if not in sync :laugh2:
