You may have seen part of this project in the Main forum under the thread of my wifes carvings. I did create the cardinal sin when I brought this thing in the house unfinished. However, it was good too because now after a month or so of jamming on the machine we go back to the garage to fix all discovered bugs to this point.
Curious about the logs? We are going to trim this thing out via the "Up North" cabin feel. It is really popular in our part of the country and we thought: What the hell...You only live once right?

Very rustic indeed! It's the arcade our forefathers would have played. Congrats on the progress. Don't play it too much or you'll never actually finish the thing

Yes indeed! Indeed it is and will be forever rustic! If you're likin' it, it was my idea...If you hate it, you know this is all my wife's idea.
Big screw up today!! Didn't bring the camera to when I went to pick up those logs. That place was crazy! ...Talk about rustic man I was at the capitol of "RUSTIC" today. I won't go back without the camera. Yea, there was like 40 employess cutting wood like the stuff you see in the back of my truck...ALL for furniture. They all had various jobs of course, peeling, cutting, grinding, sanding, assembling, selling (to me) it was really, really cool. If that is not enough there are a few places in my neighberhood doing this stuff. You know they build this kind of stuff...

This stuff is getting popular up in our neck of the woods. It is kinda cool. We decided to go with the theme...Well i don't know why. maybe cause all I knew how to do was make a damn pinewood box anyway. I figured I could muster the knowledge to slap some LOGS on it afterwords too.
Some will HATE it and some might like it. Either way you shake it this is what I will be playing my games on. I think the games will play the same.
-
I think the games will play the same.
I disagree.... your cabinet will play this game much better than mine:

-
Ahhh you got me there Lew! You dog!
"TIMBER"..Now that game was BIG back in the early 80's though right?
Psssssssst...yea, BIG if your address was 1st St. North Pole, Alaska!!!! :laugh2: :laugh2:
-
i notice the marquee is empty. a nice lil log fire would go nicely in there ;D
-
"TIMBER"..Now that game was BIG back in the early 80's though right?
Looks like you have a new name for your project!
-Stobe
-
Me Likes it!! yea...
How about...
"TimberCade"?
And Danny a log fire in the marquee...THAT would be NUTZ!!
-
I would defiantly vote for TimberCade. Fireplace in the marque would be nice. Lumberjacks chopping down trees would be better. :laugh2:
-
I used to love Timber!
Heres another shot from KLOV:

-
Ok I stand corrected. My sarcasm about Timber was innaprpriate. Don't knock it till ya try it right?
That CPO and rest of the cab for that matters is rather nice! I'm gonna try me some Timber today..Thanks Lew! You were instrumental in the naming of my machine!
Even though the "Timber" titled game fits well...I still want to steer somewhat towards the DK/Pac type classic theme, mixed with the Rustic/Timber feel, if you know what i mean.It will turn out cool! I promise.
PS: Allz I can say about the marquee is that it is gonna be crazy!

That artwork around the coin door reminds me of the Tapper machines.

Same folks!

I noticed you need a solid method to mount the monitor. May I shamelessly suggest the method I used for mine? I used 1" square pipe from lowes. I'll add a link to it once I figure out what page it's on.
EDIT: Here it is:

Whoa Mccoy...No shame there what-so-ever! That workmanship is rather TIGHT! Appreciate the pics but...
You see my dilemma, I wanna be lazy and not even decase the monitor. Yea you think that is shameful...Wait till you hear this...I was thinking some eye hooks and ratchet straps...No ---Cleveland steamer---. It will probably still float around at that point...add glue!?!?!
:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
TIMBERCADE is gonna be hilarious when done!
-
Now seriously. You have hours and hours of work on the outside of that machine. You could make brackets like mine out of wood in just a couple hours. And decasing is so easy. I had never done it before mine, and it was cake. Eyelits and ratchet straps. :laugh2:
-
You've inspired me to take the monitor mount serious now...I'm gonna bust that ugly plastic offa that thing...yea, I'm Goin in!
Plus my youngest kid is getting tired of being in there & holding that thing up when we want to play or take pics of the cab! poor kid!!
-
Started on the log trim today and got 1 side done.
It looks bowed on the last pic cause I was using a fisheye lense!!
-
The logs really pull together the knotty pine theme. Without them it looked a bit odd. Great look !
-
Thanks coder. It should be sweet when it is done. Big emphasis on when!
Ok, look at the log on the right...Looks pretty nice right? The log on the left has some weird dark looking squigly lines yea? Well at the log store they call that 'character'. Right now I'm calling it 'worm infestation'. I'm not buying that character stuff no more. Specially for like how ever many dollars per ft. I got into that corner piece.
But it is just loaded with 'character'. :censored: Yea character...
Anyway, TIMEBERCADE progress going dormant again till I get me some new logs :-[

Looks awesome DK!

looking good man. looking good.

...this may be deserving of a Mamey(tm) for a totally unique take on a cab....Zakk?.....what do you think?
Nice job!

Nice job!
Mamey? Mitch I have multiple highly visible "character"...ehmm, worm lines running down my logs. Let me get that fixed and the marquee done and see if she is worth a hoot or not.
Appreciate that though but I was crying last night lookin at that.
:hissy: My game gots worms :hissy:
-
Have your wife carve the top portions of the vertical logs like totem tops or something...she could integrate the "worms" in to her design and you wouldn't see a thing.
-
Appreciate that frizzle, that could work in theory. However, I need to start doing some things proper like on this machine or eventually it's just going to fall apart. I must de-worm this b#$%ch.
-
:hissy: My game gots worms :hissy:
It could be worst. At least you don't have termites. Sounds like you system has a bug.
-
Whew...welcome 2007! I just realized that the log guys only duped me on 50% of the logs. So I was still able to get one side finished.
I'm happy! 2007 is starting off nice now...

Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers would have been proud of your cab.

Ah Cowbell...always gotta go for the laugh huh? Where is your project thread? I gotta settle this up...

Great looking cab. Very original. What type of wood is this: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=61235.0;attach=63154;image
And wow, shiny: http://www.nicecarvings.com/assets/images/arcadedec21st2006a003.jpg
Is that entirely covered in polyurethane?
-
Ooh look who's got a fan? New blood too. :-*
Bremil...thanks for stopping by but I got ta warn you now buddy, you will take heat for warming up to me and this project from the others guys. But eff-em. Me & you, we can take em'
Seriously though man, thanks for stopping by and welcome to byoac. I have a feeling you won't bo going anywhere anytime soon so take your shoes off kick back!
As for your questions:
The wood on the overall project is junk grade laminated pine...scrap pile stuff, floor sweepings and what not. But a fews of these thugs seem to like the look...
:laugh2:
-
yea so follow my lead and we will get through this cheap too!
Oh and that is completely covered in polyurathane, except for the logs above which I suppose will eventually be, if my wife buys me some more.
-

Bah! Purists be damned! ;D

I am so geeked to start working on my own cab. I'm doing my research, imaging all kinds of wonderful things. Ah, I can't wait for the joyous pain and cussing I am about to experience as I smash fingers, ruin boards, and end up with a cab that looks like an oversized bird house.

No kidding? Wow. I didn't think pine could be made to look that good.

It looks so good I'm thinking of covering myself in it. But I don't want to get arrested for public indecency. Again. :-[

Add me to the list: Looks great so far! If they keep giving you crap, point out how big your wood is. None of that MDF crap!
;D
-
Thanks Hav!....The nice words are welcome!
Bremil- I seriously cannot mislead you ANY further. All joking aside, go buy Saint's book for 30 bones dude. I wished I had. I haven't a clue as to what I'm doing here. I'm completely winging it and well. Yea, it looks different and all that, but I still should have gone more traditional for 1st time I think...THEN maybe some CRAZY poop like this. It might have all fit together a little easier.

Back out of the room and don't look back till YOUR #1 is done dude...Get the book. The second a ? comes up...just log on to byoac and fire away. We'll all be here trying to look smart and stuff.
-
Oh yeah, I've been waiting rather impatiently for over a week now for my copy to arrive. That's good advice to stick with a more simple/traditional look for a starter. I've actually been debating doing that, but one will be rather expensive and I'm not sure I'll get to a second.

Well here I go through all the trouble of becoming a fan. Throw a HUGE championship party. Invite all the buddies over for the 1st big game. OS blows it, I LOSE the farm. Now I can't even afford to finish my cab. You said these guys NEVER lose! oooooh I oughtta...
:banghead:
-
Log trim is now roughed in. By that I mean that I get to putty up the cracks.
Well? Is Timbercade gonna be a big fat bust in the end????? :dunno
How's she looking? Try to imagine a really cool CP and marquee oh & monitor then you will have a finished product.

Whoa... i don't know if you play that thing or are supposed to go poop in it!
;D
-
Looking good DK. This defiantly has character(s) written all over it. ;)
-
Wow! This thing is definitely unique! I can't wait to see it finished!
-
Whoa... i don't know if you play that thing or are supposed to go poop in it!
;D
Thanks Ray. I just shot a mouthful of cappacino out my nose! :applaud:
Dang that top log over the marquee is crooked as heck. I will have to fix that.

;D
Hey, a dual service arcade cab. Every guy will want one!
Looks great, DK. Can't wait to see the CP on it.
-
Looks great, would go smashing in that all wood-styled game room :) Here's to hoping you don't get any carpenter ants ;D
-
Looks good. You need to be careful of splinters when in a really heated game!
Also, I can imagine that late at night, you might get a craving to go at that thing with a ax, bow saw, or the like.
-
Well, I still am not done. Major hold up right now is funds for a monitor. I would like something around 19"-20". I'm scared if I wait too long there will be only wide screens available on the market? Right now if you look hard you can find the square (technical term?) type monitors which is what I want for this so that I can play both vertical and horizontal type games and not limit myself to one or the other. While neither will be ideal they will both be playable for most of the classics designed for either vertical or horizontal...correct?
I had a 19" Dell Trinitron that I think I have broke. I'm sooo stupid. I was just trying to take the cover off and I cracked the circuit board that controls the front buttons for monitor adjustments and now when I power it up it makes scary noises. :dizzy: It is sitting on my workbench. Someone with some tech skills (which I lack) could probably make this thing work.
Anyway, here is one shot of my cabs current state. The big round hole will be where I put a casted 18" BYOAC plaque and will be on a hinge and allow minimal access to the computer. As you can see I still need a marquee (pine princess timbercade carving) and I also want another TT2 with mini racer wheel for 2 player racing action. These will be placed on either side of the outskirts of where the Virtual Bluetooth Keyboard will shoot down the center of the control panel for misc. administrative needs. Add a monitor to pretty much wrap it up.
Anyway, it is sitting in the house and we are playing games on it...A LOT. ;D
-
Well? Is Timbercade gonna be a big fat bust in the end????? :dunno
How's she looking? Try to imagine a really cool CP and marquee oh & monitor then you will have a finished product.
How bad ass would it be to create a custom joystick handle out of drift wood or something knotty and smooth! Very original design.. neat to see design deviations lately.

-
Oh yea, thanks and great idea! I forgot to mention...we were thinking of having Melissa carve little Donkey Kong style barrels for Joy stick knobs. Add that to the "to do" list.
-
Bummer about the monitor dude. Check out this site (http://www.canadamonitors.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=17&zenid=45af0d09cb2c0e87f6dbceafc27fc48d) you might find a nice used CRT to replace the one you have.
TTFN

I am looking at your post and it looks amazing, I am pretty sure that by this time you already took care of the monitor issue. your arcade looks incredible and it's very unique, I love all the art work on it. have a great day!

Hahah. Thanks for the compliments. It think when it is finally done it will be pretty cool and appreciated by some (and not so much by others).
Progess=0, nada.
It still looks the same. Oh, except I did get a byoac plaque put in place of the round hole in the front and the marquee is done too. I'm don't plan to do any more updates until the thing is complete though.
I still need a monitor. I live in a small town and there isn't anything used around here. Funds have been tight but i do plan to start looking for a monitor really soon and will be able to finish this thing up and I can't wait. I then want to build a jukebox and a more traditional style arcade cab using Saints Book.
Side note about the carved art. We released pictures of the wife's carvings on the cab right here on this website almost two years ago. She has went on to turn the carving into a full fledged, full time online business now carving dimensional commercial and personal signs. www.nicecarvings.com
