Just out of interest, has anyone even seen a PS3 or a wii since their release? I realize that they're the most popular gift this season...and there is a shortage...but has anyone actually lucked out and got one since release? I can wait til next year just curious if Sony and Nintendo are shipping out weekly or are they just saying that? I figured I'd at least see a wii by now...but no...and I make rounds on almost a daily basis, doing my Christmas shopping, when time allows.
I lucked into a PS2 a week after release, (Best Buy was bringing them out of the back room one at a time..), I know I won't see a PS3 for months, a local small town Walmart up here only had 2 of them.....just curious, and if you have lucked out and actually nabbed one or the other before Christmas, good for you.

No, I assure you the moment I see a Wii in store it's going to be in my hands. No PS3s either (not that I care).
-
So far I have been able to purchase 3 PS3s and 1 Wii from Gamestop in the past week. It has been a combination of luck and dogged determination. Gamestop is getting in a new shipment each week. The Wiis are harder to get than the PS3s.

The Target near me got 30 more Wiis in addition to the 40 they sold on Launch day which they sold Sunday. Every Walmart near me has Wiis going on sale tomorrow morning at 8:00. I dunno about once a week -- seems more like once every two weeks to me, but they are still coming in.

I finally got a Wii on Sunday. I wouldn't call it lucking out though. I saw in the Circuit City circular, they were guaranteeing at least 15 units per store. I got there at 4am and was first in line. They were nice enough to put a sign up saying they only have 12 Wiis. By 5:30, there were 12 people in line, so the sign save everyone else who showed up the trouble of waiting. They opened at ten and I got the Wii. They had a few PS3s but nobody wanted one.

I've gotten 2 PS3's, but haven't opened either. One is for selling on Ebay closer to Christmas. The other is a Christmas gift for my brother.
My brother is getting me a Wii for Christmas. I've already identified the box under the tree.
I personally think PS3's would be in higher demand if they were cheaper. It's next to impossible to ignore a $250 next generation console.

If you mean in stores, I've seen a couple PS3s sitting there. No Wiis.

I've got a Wii in my dorm room. My roommate's friend is a manager at a local Gamestop so he got a head's up when one was available.
It's an AWESOME system. I can't remember when I've had so much fun with a new system. It's like when I jumped from NES to SNES... it was such a change in my mind (at the time) that it was very exciting. The Wii gave me the same feeling. All the other systems are just an upgrade in my mind... this was totally new. The irony of that is the fact that the Wii is barely new at all... it's practically a gamecube with a new controller, but it just doesn't matter. The fun factor is off the charts.
I recommend everyone pick one up. It's a fantastic party system. I'm going to grab one for myself once I get the chance.

You people are making me think I may have to get one. And I am not a new tech adopter, I'm a wait until it's cheap adopter.

I told myself I wasn't going to spend any money on consoles this generation. I got my 360 from Freepay and tried to be content with that.
Then I played the Wii with 3 friends and realized that it was going to be something I played when people were over for years to come. Zelda is great, and so is Trauma Center, so there are worthwhile reasons to have it just for you... but the Wii really shines when you have people over.

The people that come to my house aren't gamers, they're usually my wife's friends or older family members.
I do have kids, though, that have finally hit the age where we can all play Mario Kart without having to quit the race because someone isn't following the track. So we have 3-4 of us in the house that would play.
-
Well, if you buy the Nintendo company line, all those friends and older people will be all about playing the Wii.

I've seen this happen myself. Parents and non-gaming adults have all tried the Wii when I've been playing it, and have all enjoyed it.
That's not to say you'll convert them all to gamers, but the Wii is very, VERY easy to pick up and enjoy. I wouldn't be surprised if your wife and her friends became addicted to Wii Sports or some other minigames (Monkey Ball has a ton of great games)

That's a point against buying the platform for me. I don't want them over all the time messing with my entertainment center. People that live there, no problem, people that do not, hell no.

I have to agree with Pointdablame (aka Michael Bolton) on this one. We got a Wii and it's different than anything I've ever played. We've only cracked out Wii Sports but that's all we have needed so far. I'm thinking of saving the games until Christmas so we have something new to play with on the Wii.

Other than the 20 units Walmart had at the service desk when I got mine at launch, I haven't seen a Wii for sale anywhere. I've happened upon one 20GB PS3 and one 60GB PS3 just in passing at stores, though I left both behind.
Chad - if there's ever been a time to bite early in a system's lifespan, this might be it.
-
I stopped into a gamestop to pickup some junk, and the manager said they had people hanging out again this morning for Wii.

I stopped at Fry's this afternoon after work and they had two 20GB PS3's, one 60GB PS3, and no Wiis. That's just because they just got a shipment, though. Plus Fry's is making people buy 5 games in a bundle just to buy the PS3. I was all about buying a third for Ebay until I found out about the games.

I have only seen Wiis at Target. Haven't seen any PS3s yet.
I live right next to a big mall that pretty much everyone goes to in the area, so things are going fast.
I bought mine at Target after getting a tip from slickdeals.net that they were being restocked. I took a chance and there were 4 left; I got 1 and there were 2 other people that were asking for one as well.

Recently I see about 10 or so on the shelves at our local TRU...or at least the boxes are there. If you have one in your area might be another place to check. I'm down south, by the way, so might be different demand...
