What is the most reliable disk drive for the xbox?
-
Samsung or Phillips
-
I need to buy a replacement myself; the piece of :censored: Thompson that came with my 1.0 Xbox is giving me the dirty disc errors etc... You guys have any good sources for replacements?
-
Thanks versapak! Wanted to make sure before I bought. And DrumAnBass ck out ebay. Its your friend. ;D
Don't you be jacking up my bids though ;)

I only use my Xbox drive about once every few months. Once it's modded you can just FTP everything (almost) over to it. Games play better (shorter load times, anyway) when they're on the hard drive so even games that I legitimately own are loaded on the HDD.

I'd do that by I'm still using my Enigma chip that I installed years ago. I remember all 29 of those wires. It does not support larger drives. I have wanted to do a softmod and turn the chip off but have not gotten around to it. Also not sure if you can use a bigger hard drive with a softmod?

I know you can, at least if you use the right one. I don't know much more than that, though, cos I've never been in need of a softmod.

A while back, stock replacements for the DVD drive were available on eBay for like $30 a pop. I know I'm looking at getting one in the near future. As it is, I have to put a motor in my circa-'97 Playstation, so this is just par for the course I guess. I've been getting more and more errors on my Xbox as of late, but luckily they're far and few between. It's a 1st-gen Thompson.
I know people were able to use PC drives, but I don't recall if they had to perform any other mods. I'm sure it wasn't all that asthetically pleasing either. I'm more concerned with games running than I am the system looking pretty.

You can't read genuine Xbox discs if you put a PC drive in. Also, I think you mean few and far between ;D

you can put in a larger drive with a softmod, but its a pain

As much as I've wanted to mod an Xbox, I've not had the extra cash to do so, so I didn't keep up with the scene. I just went and checked it out for the first time in a long time, and you're right.
Now, why don't you make like a tree and get outta here. :laugh2:
