Title: Ms. Pac-man Sideart by Midway V.2 ???
Post by: WunderCade on September 29, 2006, 02:49:24 am
Hi,

I found this pic of a Ms. Pacman for sale on eBay. I immediately noticed that the sideart was different. Mainly, the ghost is all pink with white (no yellow), but also - all the artwork seems to have a prominant black outline and what appears to be a whitish border around the perimeter of cabinet's side. Also, the three ghosts along the bottom have no yellow in them. And finally, the blue, and pink appear to be deeper, and more rich in color than the tradition (original) sideart.

So I sent the pic to Bob Sokol (Twobits) and he says that it is original artwork. He explained that Midway tinkered a bit with the sideart as they were winding down production and that these versions (v.2) sideart were given to dealers thru promotional contests, etc.

Unfortunately, he says that he has no plans to produce this version of the Ms. Pacman sideart. RATTS!!!

I'd love to get my hands on one. I actually think this sideart looks better than the traditional sideart. It would be soo kewl to get vectorized and up to the AAL. Anyways, take a look.

The last run of ms pacs had factory sticker sideart.. that's all that is.. no dealer special crap.. just the final run of a long run of Ms Pac games.

Ya, thanks for the info prOk.

Upon taking a closer look at the cabinet photo, you can clearly see that the artwork isn't worn, but ripped in spots...consistent with stickers, which I hate. Still, I do like this slightly different version of the sideart better than the traditional version so if I ever come across one, I'll probably convert it to stencils and paint it on.

Actually, now that I think about it, I could probably use the original artwork, change the ghost's color to all pink w/ white highlights and eliminate some yellows and achieve the same result thru manipulation.
