Never played the playstation one, but loved the saturn one. It was only an import though as far as I know and sometimes I wished I could read the japanese, but it was still a great game. I have heard from others that have played both that the saturn version is the best.

I have a jap saturn so i could pick it up i also hate jap text . I also have a pal playstation 2 and i think the game got a pal ps1 release but it could be a dodgy 50H. Do you actually need the text and can you get stuck.

You could get by without understanding the text. Most of the dialog is pretty terrible and read by bad actors. I believe the ps1 game is a better port. The saturn port suffers from slow down and has slightly worse graphics. I would think the ps1 game is a lot easier to find as well. However, the saturn game does have some bonus features absent from the ps1 game.

I have heard people mention slowdown, but I didn't really see it when I played the import. However, I had a cartridge that went in the saturn that added 4mb of ram as well as let you play imports, which I guess could explain not seeing the slowdown. I only owned two imports, Castlevania and Xmen vs SF and probably played those two games more than any others.

The 4 meg ram card is only of use when a game is specifically designed for it and Castlevania SOTN was not. I have never noticed slowdown of any sort on my Saturn version of this game.
