Title: How does a Midway Wheel Driver Board work ?
Post by: Hantalex on September 26, 2006, 08:43:05 am
Hi,
I recently got a California Speed Sitdown Racing Cab without pcb, so I decided to put my Xbox in there. I hacked a Fanatec Speedster 3 Wheel to the Steering-,Breaking- and Accelerating-Pots and it works really fine.

Triacs or SCR's are what are used to activate higher voltages from transistors and IC's.

Is the 36V AC or DC? What is the "motor?" Is it a relay?

The 36V is AC.
A wiring Diagram is available at tgma the game manual archive, see Cruisin exotica, it has the same wheel driver board as the one I have.
If you look at connector 8 there goes a ribbon cable to the game board. It

I dunno. I wouldn't think twice about trying to give it 12 V to kick it.

of course it won't(is that 12v a/c or d/c),if its a/c you could put some sort of transformer to get 36v(but you would need to put some sort of protection circuit or fuse inline with the output 12v)
I

I guess just pulling the 12v through a transformer will blow the power supply of the fanatec wheel.
Is there a way to make a simple circuit to check if the 12v are on or off and then release the 36v from the cabinet

i reckon your new steering wheel outputs d/c voltage-you need to prove that first with a multimeter before you do anything else otherwise your gonna blow the poo outta something
