Title: Confused about rom versions / MAME versions - gauntlet

So I'm running fastmame .71, and I've tried about 15 different versions of gauntlet, none of which work. I always get "required files are missing. The game cannot be run."  How can I find what I'm doing wrong? All of my other games seem to work fine on this version of MAME

as MAME changes, the ROMS for that version  may also change. For instance, you might have DOWNLOADED GAULET from a NEWER version of MAME and you want to use it in an older one. Maybe that ROM that you are now missing has been replace/deleted/changed/remove/etc...
So what you need to do is to find those missing files for that PArticular version of MAME you want to use ( it probably quicker if you just use the NEW VER of MAME).

Unfortunately, I have a slower system, that probably won't cooperate with newer versions of mame. Perhaps I can set up one of the front ends to use multiple versions of mame though as gauntlet probably doesn't suck a lot of CPU through the newer versions of mame. Thanks for the pointer!

I actually tried that at one point but was having problems. Do I want to use the .dat file for the version of MAME that I am running, or for the version of the roms I have?

Use the DAT from the version of MAME you are running.

I've been having the same problems today, clrmame told me that I didn't have the right romset for gauntlet.
