Hi Guys,
I just picked this thing up off of EBay. It's a bar top coin operated game in which you have to avoid making contact with the metal as you slide this "wand" like gadget over the course.
If you touch the metal the white part flashes red and the machine buzzes and you lose.
Does anyone know anything about this machine? I'm guessing it's from the 60's or there about...but I can't seem to find anything on the web about it other then a couple of EBay listings.

Played something like that on the boardwalk once... except it was a spinning spiral of wire.
Reminds me of some game for the playstation that came out back when the dual analog stick was new... I think it was called "Irritating Stick" or something.

What did something like that run you

Cool. I played the spiral thing on the Boardwalk in NJ too.

$111. shipped.
But after I won it I started seeing better ones on EBay! (in better shape).

So how does it do the different levels of scoring? Resistors built into the wire or something to change the voltage levels?

I tried searching for that, and I got tons of bar stools and games, or DDR pads. My search fu sucks.

Are you thinking of "The Irritating Maze" in MAME?

Nope, I was thinking of Irritating Stick.

Odds are the wire itself acts as a resistor. Depending on the point you touch it, that point back to the source will have a different resistance than the scoring point before it...or I could be completely wrong.

as far as I can tell when you touch the ring from the "wand" to the course.....it simply makes the circuit complete resulting in the "buzz".
Exactly the same way the nose lights up in the game Operation!
