Title: SVGA Monitor question. Advice?
Post by: Magnet_Eye on March 13, 2003, 08:20:45 pm: I am wondering about these SVGA monitors I see on eBay. They say for use with a computer or megatouch. They seem like they would be good for a mame cab. Anyone have one or used these?

Says its RCA tubes, with WG Chasis.

These are whole lot different then your generic pc monitor..they have scanlines..even though they are tiny but good enough to display mame games perfectly.

This can easyly be used for your cabinet except I am thinking why sooooo cheap..maybe something wrong?

Burned screen maybe.. :-\ :P

Here's my opinion. These do look like a convenient way of getting an easy to hook up (svga) monitor for mame cabinet purposes if you already have an existing cabinet that would accept it (for example - this woulda slid right into the existing mounts on my taito cabinet - before I modded it to take the 21" beast that is)

But I think if I was building a cabinet from scratch and had my heart set on a PC monitor I'd just buy a cheapo 19" and make a shelf (as opposed to an open frame one)

Let me put a different spin on it... you could get one of these from this guy 90 beans plus 35 bucks shipping

or you could get a 19" true blue low res arcade monitor for around the same and shell out an additional 100 beans for Andy's ArcadeVGA card. (this would look more authentic - but costs more )

Shrug... I dunno... I'm just rambling... it's a personal preference thing... these units look a little old/dusty but the price seems nice if they aren't totally burned in screens as snaaake alluded to.

RAMPY: I thought about using an actual monitor, but i can't afford it right now. If i were to do that, I would just go for a 25" monitor, and new cab.

So..since my cab currently has a non working 19" monitor, i would like to just "drop in" one of these and hook it right up to my pc.

Post by: rampy on March 14, 2003, 04:46:18 pm: it couldn't hurt to ask the seller point blank the condition of the screen you were interested in... i.e. no burn in, slight burn in, major burn in... and then you could make a decision (depending on how much you trusted the seller's opinion of course)
