Post by: tyweed on March 13, 2003, 07:03:15 pm
Hello i have a raedon 7500 tv out card and an rca 33" tv connected to the computer. And sometimes the picture goes black and says unusable signal tv is on but it loses s video or something? but when i hit buttons the sound and computer are running still? this is very depressing if anyone has any idea whether it could be a tv ,computer, video card,or what kind of problem you would be helping me out alot........

This Sucks !!

Does it happen while you are playing or when you go away from it.  The system might go into power save mode and not be able to send a signal back to the TV when you hit the buttons to "wake" it up.  If this is the problem then turning off all the power saving stuff may help.

Off topic but may help - if the s-video cable isn't plugged into the tv or video before turning on the PC then I can't get a signal on the tv once I plug it in.  Maybe the card is telling the tv to go into sleep mode like you can on monitors but cannot get the signal to restart.

???  I'm just pulling crap out of the air now. :P

Cheers

How is your PC setup in the cab?  Is it in a case, or do you have the mobo sitting in the middle of the cab by itself?  If the latter, you might want to make sure the video card is seated properly.  A little movement might temporarly break the contacts.

It's either a bad video cable or bad video card, or the video card is just not securely in there...

Agreed.  If the TV is telling you unusable signal, it sounds like the video cable.  I believe your system would hang if the video card's connections were interupted.  It could also be the connector physically located on the TV itself - maybe a connection is loose there?  Do you have another TV to test the video card on?

Overheating of the video card will also do this.  I saw this problem on my old aiw128 and had to put in a additional fan.  Also if you spliced your video cable then throw it away and buy a new one.  Video cards are much picker than a tv and won't output a signal unless a minimum amount of signal loss is detected.
