Ive just bought a cocktail cabinet with mame v0.105 with mala system and the menu screen is facing the right way but when i choose a game it switches sideways and i need help to switch it back.
-
When you say MaLa is right and Mame is wrong, Is vertical right or is horizontal right for you? More info please
There are many ways to go about this (and it's easy) I just need to know how you want it to work.
Do you want Mame's orientation to match MaLa all the time?
Will you be rotating the screen from vertical to Horizontal often or set just to vertical (Like I do)?
-
Thanks 4 the reply, i need it to go vertical to go with the cabinet and then it can stay like it. at the moment the games are going horizontal, in the normal monitor position as if it was desktop
-
OK you have options
But the Easiest way is to check the checkbox in MaLa options shown in the attached picture.
If you have any issues let me know
We can change it manually if required
-
i just tried that and it didnt work, do i have to restart after i do it or anything.
-
You should not have to. I just did it then at it worked ...... Weird
OK Can you tell me what settings you have on your mame.ini file here:
### Mame CORE video options ###
norotate 0
ror 0
rol 0
flipx 0
flipy 0
debug_resolution auto
gamma 1.00
brightness 1.00
pause_brightness 0.65
If you want mame to rotate left change this line (using notepad) to
rol 1
-
Sorry but can u tell me how to get into the mame.ini file and where to change settings thanks

OK Newbie Huh :-) That's cool We will sort it out
First you need to find where mame (or mame32) is? What directory? Eg C:\emulators\mame
Once you have found that there should be a mame.ini (or mame32.ini) file in that directory?
Can you find that?
-
i found the mame core video options and i need to change it to the right but at the bottom it says the settings are run by default and they are off so how do i turn default settings on ???

What do you mean? You just need one to changethat one line in mame.ini (using Notepad)
If you want to have it rotate to the right (not the left) the change is:
ror 1
If it's too much for you can you e-mail me your mame.ini file to backwash@optusnet.com.au and I will change it for you and send it back
-
sorry about this i will email through the file, i just had a bloke look at it who does pc repairs and he did everything you said and it didnt change.

Mate, It should not be this hard! This is a basic funtion of mame. We are missing something here. Hmmmm
Are you using mame32 or command line mame ?
I will have a look at the file once you have sent it.

Bugger, If you were local in Sydney I would have popped over for 10 mins to fix it up :-)
???i tried copying the file onto disc but it must not have burner. As i bought it not long ago im trying to work out how it all works. .
The file is really small. It would easily fit on a Floppy disc or a USB flash drive 3 or 4Kb)
rang the guy who i bought it off and im waiting for call back He thought that it was more to do with MaLa settings .
It sounds like Mame not mala to me. I think it's rude that he would sell it to you when it is not set up properly
but im starting to feel a bit out of my depth.( but im learning)
You will learn :-) and laugh about this soon.
Can you launch a game from a command prompt? (see example in attached pic)
Your mame.ini file should look like this:
You can use notepad to edit it or use mala to edit it (see attched pic)

Hi it`s your worst nightmare back, i tried adjustment through mame config and did nothing. No matter what i change it does not seem to do anything like there is default settings or something. How do i get the command prompt up, when i start the pc it just launches straight to main menu then i exit it back to windows 98. Am i on the right track?
-
Hmmm Maybee the guy you bought it off has made the mame.ini file 'read only' hence no changes.
Can you check that?
Yeah if you exit back to windows 98 you should be able to get a command prompt in accessories of something
-
Back again i haven`t found out yet about the file being `read only`but it seems to have a lot more explanation on what the settings do on it than the copy you sent through. the only command prompt i can find has ms dos prompt, C:\> or C:\windows>

That respose shows me that you probably don't have enough PC experience at a command/dos type level & dealing with directory structure just yet.
I'm not having a go at you but because of that this thread will go on forever trying to communicate in terms you are not familiar with ;)
So I will offer my help further if you want to do something like
- Get a friend of yours who knows PC's to call me
- Send me the Hard Drive from the cab in the post and I will send it back working the next day. No Problem
What do you think?
Ironically the problem is probably an adjustment that will take 10" to change ;D
-
You are Spot on :banghead: :timebomb: :notworthy:I was out of my depth 10 posts ago but i like havin a go at things myself. I have got a guy who services all the arcade games in this area coming around on wednesday so hopefully with your notes he will know what to do. Otherwise i will take u up on the offer and thanks for your help anyway im sure if i knew what i was doing we would have fixed it long!!!!! time ago. :-[

:) Good Luck for Wednesday

Does the computer in this machine use a motherboard with integrated Intel graphics? If so, this is a known problem with the Intel drivers. There's an "auto rotate" setting in the driver options that needs to be unchecked. You'll have to dig a bit to find it. Ignore the rest of the suggestions about specifying a resolution. The problem is that "auto rotate" option in the driver.
Here's the MAME FAQ entry...

Not without knowing what he has changed?
If I where you I would recreate the Gamelist again by setting up mame from scratch (its pretty easy)
