Title: BYOAC Fantasy Football Team Owners Poll
Post by: DrewKaree on July 12, 2006, 07:12:40 pm
I'd like to know if you guys want to change the number of starting quarterbacks or leave at what is currently set up, which is 2 starting quarterbacks.

Also, if anyone has any questions, comments, or proposals for changes to the scoring system, this is the thread to do it in.

If it doesn't matter to you, and you vote that way, if there's a tie, I'll recruit an impartial person to be the tiebreaker and vote in some way that they won't have a clue as to what's going on....something like "if Stingray tells us we lemonpartied him, it's X, and if he tells us we almost got him, it's Y"  You know, like all scientifical and stuff

I don't know what I'm doing, but I know I can beat Tommy.  Give me zero quarterbacks. :applaud:

Everyone who does not have Peyton Manning can have 2 quarterbacks. That way it is fair. :laugh2:

I voted 2.

I voted 1.

If the league was 8 or 10 teams, 2 QB's would make sense, but with 12 teams I just don't see how it can be justified. To set up a line-up where it is inevitable for teams to not have a full roster just doesn't add up.  Given 12 teams and 32 QB possitions in the league, in a perfect world everyone will have 2 starting QB's and 8 will have a 3rd starting QB to utilize during bye weeks.  This leaves 4 teams that are basically spotting ~16 points or so for 2 games to the other team because there is no players left.

I know last year I had started with two decent starters and the third QB I had had 0% of ever starting.  I spent most of the season picking up any QB that either by injury or lack of performace by the primary QB appeared would get a chance to start/play.  Luckily I picked up a few extras due to others missfortunes as one of my starters had a season ending injury and I was able to cover my bye weeks, but I played more than one team that had to start someone that could only score points if there was an injury.

I'm chiming in to remind folks of two things

1.  You can change your vote if you wish.  You may wish to after being reminded of the second point.

2.  This year, they're going to have a week with 6 teams on a bye.  The following week, there's 5 teams on a bye.  That means there will be VERY few backups to choose from for a bye week, and if someone doesn't drop (or forgets to drop) a QB, you can see how difficult it might become when having to start 2 QB's.

Two QBs on the roster, one starting.

Why the hell would you want to start more QBs on your fantasy team than on an actual team?

I'm not sure if you are making a comment or a statemtent.  The vote is for how many starting QB's, 2 as there was last year, or just 1 this year.  How many QB's, K's, WR's, etc. you want to fill your reserves with is not in questions.

Raleigh's got it interpreted correctly.  I couldn't care less if you want to have FOUR QB's on your roster, all I'm concerned about is if people want to change the number of STARTERS.

Again, if anyone misunderstood or has changed their minds, your vote can be changed.

One QB would be fine if it was a real pick draft.. if i have to get stuck with what the "yahoos" pick for me i would want two playing every week.

2 QBs would be fine if it was a real pick draft, as I could ensure that I was one of the 8 teams that had a third starting QB for the Byes.  Since it is not real pick there is a 25% chance that I will get stuck with only two starting QB's(as I started with last year) that I have to play every week and be screwed on the bye's and if there is an injury to one of my QB's and I don't pick up the backup right away I will be way up the creek.  Oh well, looks like the tides of 2 QB's is winning out, I faired well last year with the same set up but just feel that it is more fair to just have one starting QB, I mean any given week you can pick up a third string WR that will get some catches, a third down running back or full back that will get some carries, a kicker, a defense, but in this set up you are pretty much SOL for a QB unless you get a good draft or you are the first one on Monday's to pick up the QB for the team with the injured or struggling QB.  I know last year I screwed some people because I had at times 5 starting QB's on my roster cause I would pick up anyone who looked like they where going to start sense they are such the commodity in this set up and I wanted to ensure that I would always have two each week, it payed off then and I will just have to do the same this year I guess.

There are 11 people in thus far.  There's only one person who's not a member here (he's my wife's uncle), and he's the reason I brought the subject up, because he said having to start 2 QB's each week sucked ass, and would I talk to you guys about changing it.  His team is gator if anyone wants to double check this with him to verify it.  His vote is not represented, and it's a tie at this moment.  We're missing one other vote, and if the other spot isn't taken by Monday by another person who's told me they wanted in but are on vacation, it sounds as if it'll be a catfight between GG the Greek, and DeLong the Geek ;D

Whoever hasn't voted, vote, and GG, why don't you chime in in case the spot becomes yours.  You too DeLong.

Oh hey, does anyone WANT to do a live draft?  If there's anyone who CAN'T do it, it's a no-go no matter what the vote would be.  We can start another league for live drafting for those of us who might want to do so.  It sounds as if we wouldn't have a problem getting another league filled if we want to do a live draft too.

I don't really want a live draft.  This is like league #5 for most people involved so make it one we don't have to stress over.

Sorry I'm just chiming in on this, been out of town.  With a 12 team league, having two starters, plus a backup basically insures that 36 QBs will be off the board.  That means that some weeks when you have to deal with bye weeks, you could well have to start someone who might not even take a snap.  I'd definitely be an advocate of 1 QB only.

As for the live draft, I'd be a fan of an online draft that takes place over a week or so, but not a live draft where we would all need to be available at the time.  As Chad pointed out, many of us already have multiple leagues we're in and have set time aside for, and trying to get everyone to be able to sit down at the same time would be really tough, I would imagine.

I vote 1 starting QB for the same reasons you stated Drew.  Once the teams start going into bye weeks, getting a good starter becomes a chore.  All of the leauges I've played in before have always started 1 QB.  Of course these leauges were mainly put together to get a bunch of buddies together to drink beer.  And I would like to see an auto draft.  I think it would put everyone at a more equal level (starting out)  Esp. for those who have never played.  Just my .02

I played last season (tied for second in standings).  I have to say I didn't really like the 2 starting QB rule.  It might have been that I discovered this post draft and had to scramble all season long to find a second starter (especially on BYE weeks).  And don't even think about trying to trade for one (I tried unsuccessfully all season).  Its tough with a 12 team league.
Anyway, hope you guys didn't mind me chiming in.  Curious, is Raleigh going to try to defend his crown?

Have fun guys.  --JamIt

I hadn't realized there's an option for more teams.

JamIt, if you'd like to jump in and try to beat Raleigh's brains out, GG would round it out for a nice even 14.....hmmm?  What say you?

It will DEFINITELY be an auto-draft now.  I had figured it would be, but was more or less gauging interest in another live draft league between a few of us.  Also, I will change the starting lineup requirements to 1 starting QB.  There is no limit to how many players you wish to carry on your bench at any one position, so if you feel the need to have 4 QB's, the rest of us appreciate you leaving a few extra quality players out there for us ;)

We're full up unless we get anyone chiming in that they wanna join in, and they allow up to 16 teams (might be 18, but I'm not in for that many, sorry), so IF YOU WANT TO SIGN UP, IT'S BEEN CHANGED TO 14 TEAMS, SIGN THE HECK UP!

If no one else takes those two positions (like JamIt or GG, hint hint, nudge nudge), I'll lock it down to a 12-team league on Friday (or over the weekend, depending on when I get to it) and we can decide on a draft date next week whether anyone signs up or not.

I joined.  However I notice that the league is at 13.  Bye weeks suck, so if you can't get to 14, let me know and I'll bow out.  Raleigh, I'm coming for ya :)

It's an all or nothing proposition with Yahoo.  They don't offer it as an option as far as I know.  I'll take a look at it tomorrow afternoon to make sure, but I'm pretty sure that was the reason we couldn't do it last year.  Mebbe they changed something though.
