This is my first post to this board. I just recently finished my Galaga MAME project and just wanted some feedback on how I did. You can view all the progress photos at the following link.

Good work! Looks like the kids will love it, too.

Clean and beautiful. I think it is perfect. I want one. I am a Galaga junky. The quality of work is top notch.
-
Looks great.

Thanks everyone, I appriciate the nice words. I think getting it all done in less then 30 days was pretty good timing. I have seen other's projects go into the months. Once I start something I pretty much can't stop until it's done. Now, if I can just convence the wife to let me start a Mini Mame cabinet build... But having a hard time finding a place to buy 1/2 inch MDF...
-
Really? I see 1/2" mdf at both home depot and lowes here. They have 1/2 and 3/4 but 5/8 is hard to find.
Oh - the cabinet looks good!
-
Ok looked at Lowes last week, took a drive down to Home Depot... They didn't have 4x8 sheets, but they had 2x4 sheets.... just the right size for my next project a 60% Pacman!... I bought 3 sheets to get started. Here I go again!
Thanks again,
Jamie

Great Job! A Galaga or Pac Man is next on my list after I finish my Donkey Kong project.

Months? Heh, I'm in Year 2 and I'm still not finished (started in April 2005). It's probably been less than 10 full days of work though...
Your Galaga looks fantastic! I can't wait to see your progress on the 60% Pac-man.
-
Nice! I'm a Galaga fan too.
You didn't mention what you did with the software. Does your PC boot up straight into MAME running Galaga?
Are you planning on adding more games that use the same 2-way joystick, 1 button setup? (Galaxian, Space Invaders, etc)?
-
Your right I didn't list what all I had on there.
Actually, I cut my control panel and I have a 4 way joystick so that I can play any of the normal 4 way 1 button games. I hated cutting the CP, but I really wanted to be able to play more then just one or two games on here.
Currently I am using Mame .105 and GLaunch as the front end. I needed something very simple for the Kids (ages 4 and 7) to use. I really wished that there was a vertical option for MameWah.
On the Menu right now is:
Galaga
Gaplus
Galaga 88
Galaxian
Space Invaders
Pac Man
Ms Pac Man
Pengo
Burger Time
Rally X
Xevious (I use the player 2 button as my bombs)
Omega Race (I use the up as the thrust, not optimal I know)
Asteroids (I use the up as the thrust)
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Super Mario Brothers
I think that's about it.
I have another CP Overlay and I am really considering buying another Metal CP that has two buttons already cut and adding at least one more button to it. I think one button extra on the CP wouldn't take away from it's authenticity too much.
60% PacMan - I started doing all the conversions of the measurements from the jakobud drawings, I will try and do the side cuts for Pac-Man this weekend. But... I am really torn, as I don't know what to do about side artwork. I guess I could try and cut my own stencils, but that sounds like a lot of work. And I don't think the local sign shops would print them for me since it's copyrighted material... I guess I will experiment with printing on my InkJet and spraying it with some sort of acrylic sealer. Anyone else have any ideas?
-
One other issue... I can't find Orange t-molding in 1/2. I contacted t-Molding.com and they said that I could trim 3/4 molding... but I think that might be a little tedious too. So if anyone knows another place to find Orange 1/2 t-molding I would be thankful if you could pass that on.

I have a 4 way vertical cabinet running Mala - I was looking through your list and comparing it to mine.
I also have:
Astro Blaster (requires a second button for slow mo)
Donkey Kong 3
Dig Dug
Frogger
Mappy
Phoenix
Popeye (plays horizontal, but with your size monitor you should be fine)
Qix

Yes, I forgot I have Frogger and Dig Dug on there too.
Well, I did it... I started my Mini-Pac-Man MAME project. I reconsidered the 60% scale and actually went with a 70% cabinet scale. It is about 46" high. I haven't decided if a I am going to go with a 15" vertical VGA that I already have or go out and buy a 15" LCD to save on inside space...
I think you can buy some used LCD 15 inchers for about $50-75 on Craig's list.
I will start a new posting here as I get more going on this new project.
Still need to find some 1/2 inch orange t-molding.!!!
