Title: Best Foot Config for when driving
Post by: SithMaster on June 25, 2006, 10:49:11 pm
Im curious if for when driving you should have your right foot always on the brake and only use the gas pedal when accelerating and maintaining speed.

also then should the right foot always be aligned with the brake and pivot the foot from the heel.  kinda like this

thanks.

Just learning how to drive?  I keep my right foot where ever it was used last, it only takes 1/2 second to move your foot from one pedal to the other so as long as your paying attention and not tailgating the car in front of you, you should be fine.

Keep your foot OFF the brake.  That's called 'riding the brake'.  Ever drive behind someone that always has their brakes on?  That's why.  And you'll wear out your brakes faster that way.

yep like Peale said, don't ride the brake.....

and allways watch the car in front of you and the car in front of it....  you never know if the car in front of you is paying attention and if your watching that car you can anticipate what's coming up.......

Try steering with your feet.  That leaves your hands free to post askingwhat to do with your hands.

I am learning to drive and ive been driving like atomsmasher said.  i was just wondering if there is a better way/safer way.

i dont like taco bell but i like wendys so lets got with a jr bacon cheeseburger.  wow i hate how there is no longer a biggie size and they charge you for a medium and a large upgrade.  small is still regular price but they are jerks.

but if you steer with your feet how do you press the pedals ohhh?

Right foot - alternates between gas and brake as needed.

Left foot - clutch only as needed. Don't leave your foot on the clutch. You can possibly  burn up your clutch this way.

Good choice going for a manual over automatic. It's like playing a video game everytime I go to work. ;D It does suck though if you get stuck in traffic.
