I am new to wiring up monitors and would like to ask for some help. :-)
I have an arcade monitor that I know works (buddy of mine just installed some new caps).
I just tried to see if the thing would power on but I can't tell what
I am doing. I would really like to not power anything that I don't
need but I don't know what I need!

In the upper-right, you'll see a box with a service outlet. I have
confirmed there is 120v there. On the upper left is a box that I plug
the monitor power into. I put a voltmeter to it but nothing.
This pic is something that is attached to the side wall but I have no
idea what it is. it plugs into the board.

I'm not really interested in getting the cab's power switch to
work...especially since it is cut!! I have no idea how/where.
I don't know how to tell if the isolation transformer is connected properly (or even where it is!).
Any help would be appreciated.

not all monitors require an isolation transformer,which monitor are you gonna use?
you have verified that you have 120v
from what i can see from your picture you have a mains breakout board to distribute the 120 v to the various parts of the cab e.g lightbox,on/off switch and the psu transformer-you should check that for bad solder joints.
you also have two fuses next to the transformer,check them
the metal box type thing looks to me to be a voltage regulator,possibly for 12v
an isolation transformer(if present)would be connected just after the mains enters the cab
in saying that the transformer in the centre of the picture more than likely an isolation transformer of some type(different to european cabs)
i say just plug your monitor into the socket and go for it,if you have no 120v at that socket it will be one of those fuses
it looks like a very old machine what is it?

I think that's an old Taito cab, right? Don't remember if that transformer will also do isolation.
Unless your monitor is specifically equipped to NOT use isolation, I would *not* just plug the monitor into that socket. That's the service outlet for the cabinet.

i was under the impression there is another two pin socket by those fuse holders and that was the one i was referring to,certainly i would never advise anyone to plug into a mains out socket that was not protected

yes, it's an old Taito cab (Twin Eagle) but I think it was converted to something else.
The monitor definately needs an isolation transformer.
I will do some more research and see what I can find out.
Suggestions welcomed. :-)

It's ugly but it's working!
Removed everything but the stuff I needed (including the IT).
Now, I need to finish the CP and maybe order me a new marquee.
Thinking about calling it JunkMAME or UglyMAME??
