Title: Power to an arcade monitor?
Post by: Nailz on March 03, 2003, 11:54:16 pm
Hi there, if you have read any of my other threads, I am trying to find out what it will take to hack an AC power cord to use with an arcade monitor.  I am looking at buying one of these for a cocktail cabinet project I want to do:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13718&item=3211324388&rd=1

I just need to know who else has had to hack a power cable and what wires need to go where.  I am assuming most monitors will get power the same way?

Thanks for the help as usual

The isolation transformer is there for a reason, dude.  DON'T bypass it.

Ok.....  so I need an isolation transformer for one of these monitors....

I am having some trouble getting straight answers on what exactly I am needing to do to get power to one of these monitors.

Can anyone point me to where to get info on how to hook up an isolation transformer and get power for one of these?

Or am I better off buying a VGA Arcade monitor?

I really want to do this correctly as well as not blow things up so if you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Other things I need... do I need a J-PAC, etc?  I am planning on using an ArcadeVGA card form ultimarc plus an IPAC and an OptiPAC for my buttons, spinners, trackball, etc...

okay NORMALLY..i am not that sure, but most monitors have built in isolation transfer..now once you get your monitor..post a picture or somethin and someone will be able to tell you if its built in..

Maybe I can but i am not good with monitor..

here are the people you might wanna pm for more info.

Tom61
JMdickson
mamefan
Davek

These people helped me with monitor questions before.

Will you ask the seller to send you picture.

you know...back of the monitor..since he cant tell you how they work maybe he should take atleast a picture of back.

I did a look up of the monitor on the Wells Gardner site and it does indeed need an isolation transformer.

I think at this point I just need to know how to set this up and if I need a J-Pac or not?

Thanks again for the help, you guys all rock.

you only want a j-pac when you have a working jamma cabinet you wanna leave you jamma harness intact.

Other then that,I dont think you actually need the j-pac if you wanna run windows with arcade monitor(unless I am missing something :P).

you may need a video booster (also at the ultimarc site) if you don't Jammatize your cab and get a Jpac.  video cards (including the arcadeVGA) output ~1 volt, whilst most Arcade monitors need ~5 volts to work properly..

Iso transformers are easy to set up 2 wires in from main, two wires out to the monitor...actually, go here: :)

Yeah, I am starting to think that while they cost more money, I will go with an easier solution as I am having a lot of difficulty finding answers to some questions.  At this point I may either go with a new arcade monitor where all I need to do is hack the VGA cable, or get me a VGA Arcade monitor, I would hate to spend money on another solution and not be able to get it going....
