My first mame cab fell through because I didn't have enough for an LCD monitor. I have a full, empty cab sitting in my dining room. Now I try something different. A bartop utilizing a 17" CRT Monitor without paying a dime. I already have a trackball, a keywiz, joysticks, and buttons. I'm gonna use an old 366MHz PC to play classic games. I have all needed router bits, and a can of black laquer. I just need to begin
-
without spending 1 thin dime?
I'm not going to hold my breath. You sir are a shame to all BYOAC'ers...
;D
-
Stop typing and get going. :applaud:
-
just finished cutting the two side panels out of 3/4" MDF. Basic square shape, but the router will help with that later on. Pictures later
-
Bottom Panel is cut. I really wish all my cuts were straight. Oh well, thats what wood filler is for
-
Shame on you!
Where are the pictures?
-
will take pics once construcyion begins. Just cutting now.
-
All the wood is cut. pictures soon
-
You went from this to selling all of your stuff a few hours later?
-
yes
:'(

a combination of poor carpentry, frustration, and ADD lead to the end

dude don't give up so easily....
my old high school teacher had 4 fingers on each hand. he allways said he's still got 8 more chances to make stuff right
-
dont give up! its taken drew 2 years to make his control panel!
-
Giving up?! Well damn... you should put some pictures up anyhow. Lets see what the issue is - you may just be too critical of yourself.
-
One more thing - as just an option.... just build a box and mount your controls so you can plug it up to a TV and play. Ultimately, it's just about playing the games.

I think it is about building it and adding to it and starting over and building it and adding to it. Then when you get done, you need money so you sell it or piece it out. Then you start building it and adding to it :blah:

My first control panel was a plywood and contact paper abomination. It made the cab playable, and that led to me remaking it and improving it twice. Do your best to create a rough, but playable panel. You will likely be inspired from there.

All right. I'm just gonna make the CP. Still, I have one joystick and several buttons that need a home.
-
Dang man. That was an easy forfeit. You gotta have love for the game.

It all happened when I started, and the day after I started, I was given a free ticket to a USS Enterprise motivational speaking seminar.
Anyone wanna buy a CP?
;D

yeah that's the spirit....
If at first you don't succeed, that's just more amunition for us to make fun of you...... or something like that ;)

Take a look at the shoddy workmanship on my rig and you'll feel better. It's amazing how great it looks in a dim room from about 10 feet away. Makes you want to see what it's all about. As you stroll over, all you can think about is playing a game - and you don't even notice all the bad stuff.
At least that's my theory, and I'm embracing it.
-
Seriously, just fire up black lights - no regular lighting. It will look cool no matter what. If anyone gives you grief, tell them it's by design! Point them to this!

You will be the only one who knows where all of your flaws are. It can be annoying knowing about that gap, or the exposed screw in the back, but in the heat of battle who care. Don't give up, just get something working. You'll be playing in no time.

Thats the problem with A.D.D. it's hard to keep together any ... oh look a bird. I think it's going to rain.
-
How do you keep an A.D.D. person's attention?
I like tater tots! Let's go ride bikes!
-
Go to hell you son of a... wow, a butterfly
-
I'm going to mow the lawn now honey. Oooo, look, my new trackball just came in the mail.
