You don't lie to a mother. You tell her you totally forgot and how ashamed you are, but that you'll buy a gift double the big the next day. So you will get double the food in your dish today, having forgot it was her day  ;)

yeah I forgot my wife's birthday this year... I found confessing and admitting that you forgot makes things easier...
