A new topic for our other project, restoring a Street Fighter II - Hyper Fighting cabinet.
Could someone let me know your opinion on whether or not this cabinet is the original cab for this game? Thanks.

Looks like you have a dynamo cabinet, which is kinda what a "dedicated" Street Fighter would look like. What I think of as a dedicated SF2 Turbo would be a red dynamo cabinet that is angled inward near the bottom (can't find a damn picture of the cabinet, bah). I remember an ad in a magazine for a contest where you could win an MK or SF2 Champion Edition machine. That red dynamo cab they had pictured is what I assumed is the "dedicated' version.

Found a pic of a Neo Geo running in this style of dynamo I think of as dedicated for SF2 games.

hi guys.... the generic dynamo cabinet with the angled 'corner cut' control panel is the original cabinet that SF2, SF2ce was designed to be housed in. The Hyper version was just an add-on for CE therefore they had just a new marquee, but all other graphics should be the 'CE' version.

oh... forget that post as ive found some arcade changing information...
the machine you have is a original dynamo cabinet which was designed and used for STREET FIGHTER II... championship edition was and upgrade for the SFII dynamo cabinet but also had its OWN cabinet... which is different.
only found this out today :P

Kind of an old thread but that cabinet is a Dynamo HS-1 or HS-2. The HS-2 has a slide-out control panel and drawer for the PCB and power supply while the HS-1 does not, but they are otherwise identical. The HS-1 and HS-2 are designed for 19" monitors.
The reason the marquee was cut down to fit is because it was designed for a 25" monitor version of the Dynamo "cut-corner" cabinet, such as an HS-5. The 25" monitor Dynamo's are wider than the 19" Dynamo's.
Though Dynamo cabinets could be purchased new in a generic format in order to install whatever game you wanted, it is unlikely an operator would have bought a brand new 19" Dynamo cabinet to install SFII. Yours was probably converted from an Ikari Warriors or something.

Just got another Dynamo cab this week at a garage sale. This time it's X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Very nice shape for $100. I'm picking it up today. This one is also for my brother (like the SFII) to restore, although there is not much work to be done.
I do have a question though. Strangely, the button layout is different than the typical 2 rows of three buttons. This one has 3 rows of two buttons. Was this standard for any game? I'll post pictures when I get the machine.

Someone must have been really high when they drilled the buttons for that new machine you're got.
My best guess is... Those CP's are metal, and a pain to drill out new holes so the operator just drilled new holes into a layout he already had to fit all the buttons and joysticks into the thing. Operators can be very lazy, sometimes. (No offense to any actual operators that visit these boards.)
