Title: arcades in chicago?
Post by: Distortion on February 27, 2003, 09:09:31 pm
I went to visit the Illinois Institue of Technology (where I'm likely going to school next year) last week and when I asked my host if there were any arcades in town that we could visit, he said that there weren't.  I hope this isn't true, so I'm asking you guys.  If anyone here is from Chicago, can you fill me in?

There is a Dave and Busters and a ESPN Zone for sure. Those are massive arcades. There are also smaller neighborhood arcades all over the place.

If you're willing to trek out to the 'burbs, there's a GameWorks in Schaumburg.

Since I'm not gonna have a car, anywhere I can get with public transportation is great.  Thanks for the replies.

Check out Dennis' Place for Games. Used to be a big test site for Midway.

I think it is actually on Belmont however, right Almost under the EL tracks; not Clark as listed here.

We usually hit the dave and busters in the gold coast area--girlfriend used to live right there so it made a neat friday night date--play some star wars while she was scoring tickets on those coin drop games (why any would throw a token into a game with no screen is beyond me :P)

I see two Dennis' Place listed in the phone book.

DENNIS PLACE FOR GAMES
6701 N CLARK ST, CHICAGO, IL 60626
(773) 743-5207

DENNIS PLACE FOR GAMES
955 W BELMONT AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60657
(773) 528-8616

Fun Zone on Western ave. was one of my hangouts as a teen (22 years ago and still in business!).
FUN ZONE
3641 N WESTERN AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60618
(773) 528-3032

There is Dave and Busters on Clark
DAVE & BUSTERS INC
1024 N CLARK ST, CHICAGO, IL 60610
(312) 943-5151

The GameWorks in Shaumburg is accessible by public transportation.

Most malls around here will have a small arcade.

Union Station has a small (6 to 8 games) arcade next to the Grand Hall.

GnatEye,

I haven't been to FunZone in twenty years. I used to hang out there after school (and some times during school ;) ) when I went to Lane Tech back in 1979, 80 and 81. I remember it being one of the most brightly lit arcades that I have ever seen.

There used to be another arcade on Westerm that was directly across the street from Lane Tech, near the book store.  It was originaly called "Dennis the Menace Spaghetti House" or something like that. They had the games up on the second floor with almost no lighting at all.  Later the name changed and they moved the games down to the first floor.

Is that place still around?

Navy Pier does not have an arcade.

North Pier(which is a few blocks west) used to have a BattleTech Center, but that has moved to Dave and Busters on Clark. I think it is still there.

Battle tech was in Dave and Busters last November, I played there.
