Long time No hear ...how's everybody doing ?

Just to catch you guys up Dawn and I remodeled our kitchen and bathroom in our house in MA . We just moved in last Friday. Not everything is complete ..I still have some finish carpentry work to do . but no biggie I'll get it done WHENEVER...LOL. I just had to get out of my Mother In laws house ...I was there for 10 months... I am sure you can get the point

Please before I go any further I would like to take the oportunity to personally invite Peale and Chad Tower. I know you guys haven't been able to make any of the other meetups . I hope you'll be able to come this time. We ALL would like to meet you guys

Now having said that I would also like to open it up and invite any newcomers to the event ...both people who are new to the boards or people who have said they would try to make it in the past , but just couldn't. I haven't been on the boards for a while so if you know anyone who might want to come please send them a PM with a link to this thread

I would like to start a emailing list so if you guys would send me your email adresses in a PM

Now as most of you may know I am a Professional DJ ...after my illness and my doctors ok .I went back to work last MAY. I have been rebuilding my business slowly but due to the lack of funds I have been working with 2 entertainment companies as well . I am basically starting all over again. I am working for 2 companies to have some income, so I have to take the jobs when they come

SO when and where is this event going to be ?

I am already booked for the saturady June 3rd during the classic game tournament so that is out . I am also booked for the 17th ...this leaves us with the June 10th or 24th . I wouuld prefer to do it on the 10th to be honest because I am going to a DJ convention in Conneticut on the 26th .

And heh, ironically enough, Peale and I just hung out on Wednesday at a vendor's show.

One thing I don't understand from your post is the statement that you are doing this to have income. How do you plan on making income off of us? ??? Or am I misreading that?

My issue is always Funspot. It's a great place and all but it's a 2+ hour drive for me and I do not often have a full weekend day to spend like that.

I think he meant that he's working for the 2 entertainment companies until he gets his own shindig back up and running.

Good to hear from ya! I'll be in Alton most weekends in June anyway so all the weekends are good. June 10th starts Bike Week as an FYI. I will be there with my bike but I know you have said in the past that bike week is the only week that you don't go up....and frankly traffic is not good up there specifically on the roads leading from Funspot to your house.

Other than that I will be around and will be entering the tournament again this year.

Hopefully just myself and Lee-Ann will be comming but that will depend on Lee-Ann's mother babysitting the kids... As usual, if #1Chad decides to go we will provide a ride also.

Here is the schedule

meet at the flagpole at 1 PM
split up and play games for a few hours
meet at the daytona race game? 8 players ...1 winner will it be you ?
then we head back to my place for some good food ...we'll that's what I've been told anyways

As always I will supply the meats ...a little of everything..chicken, steak tips, sausage . For the kids we can make dogs and burgers

What we ask for is people to BYOB ..Beer or Booze which ever . We also ask that people bring/buy a side dish so if you are willing to bring one please speak up ...pasta, potatoe salad ...anything that you can think of . BTw there is a Shaws approximately 1 mile from my place

NOW who else is coming !!!!!

Had some fun at Funspot (go figure with a name like that huh) played some Asteroids and Star Wars in all of their vector glory along with a multitude of other classics. I'm sure you know all about that though since you've been there... Played the usual Daytona race at the end which I just so happened to win! ;D

Back at Ed's we ate the usual steak tips, chicken, some pasta salad... Talked alot about XBOX becase I have modded two now and Ed would like to have one modded himself. Chit-chatted about all sorts of other stuff and had a generally good time.

P.S.
A little tip for you in case you can make it to the next one though is if at all posible make two trips to Funspot. One without the kids (the meetup) and one with. Not that kids aren't great but we've done both having the kids and not and it's alot easier to have fun at Funspot without worrying about them the whole time. Plus, who doesn't want to get away from their kids once in a while!

It's such a coincedence that I am actualy able to come to Funspot. I've booked this holiday a couple of weeks ago, hadn't heared of Funspot at all. I was just going to visit my relatives who live in Drury MA, and some around Boston.

I actualy put some message here to ask for arcades or private collectors open for visitors, because I wouldn't want to miss some classic arcade gaming, while being in the "land of arcades". Little did I know I would be very near what looks like Arcade Heaven to me :)

I checked the list of games they have, and it's totaly amazing. Most games I haven't actualy ever seen in their original cab, let alone play it. These original cabs are almost extinct here.

I'm not a very good player, but the upside of this is that I can switch games more often ;)

But at least just as much fun would it be to meet some fellow BYOAC-ers !!!!!

We will stay at my uncle and aunt's who live in Drury MA. Weirs Beach is actualy quite a long drive from there (3,5 hours) BUT we also want to stay in/around Boston for a night or two. From the info I got Boston is about 1,5 hours drive from Wiers Beach ?

[EDIT]mmmm, just checked again, it's almost 2 hours from Boston....bit too long for daytrips to that city from Weirs Beach....I tink we'll make it a round trip, one night at Weirs Beach, one night, maybe two in Boston.[/EDIT]

Do you guys think it's a good idea to get a hotel or B&B in Weirs Beach instead and then drive up to Boston for a day or two, and then of course spend a day with you guys :)

This would also conveniently give me some more time at the classics with Funspot around the corner ;) :P

Maybe a stupid question: how many tokens give you a credit on those classics ? I read on the funspot site that you pay 16 dollarcent/token when you change 20 bucks in one time.

The person we realy need to get to agree to the date is Ed though... His is the closest place to Funspot and it's where the meets end up when all the gaming is over. I think I have his number somewhere so I'll probably give him a call and a heads up as to the talk of a meet up.

As for the tokens per game... 1! For 90% of the classics I'd say, it's 1 token. There's also newer games that take up to like 10 tokens! :o

Ok so I am the fore mentioned Ed ...and being the busy DJ kinda guy that I am the only date I have available for September as of now is Sat the 2nd , don't rreally think I will be booking the date , it's just too close. If we have it on the 2nd I know Paul will be in Ireland and he'll miss it...sorry Paul

The only time I ever felt forced to do this was right before the first meet and greet when Mr.C held that gun to my head while saying "Your gonna do this for ALL of us or else, your also gonna make us food and make sleeping arangements for me "

Ok all kidding aside ...I do not feel obligated to do this ..I usually host 2 get togethers per summer so this will be considered the second and if people can't make it on Sept 2 then we can do another in the beging of Oct .

Hey I think it would be great to hang out with you Level42 ...it's not everyday you get to hang out with someone from the Netherlands. Only problem I can see is that we invited that guy from Ireland (Joy Monkey) and now we scared him away ....he's heading back ..LOL

The arcade is great you'll probably love it . I have an 8 yr old son who loves company ...there and there are plenty of things for all ages

So guys no dilly dallying here...pass the info along to the others and lets try to do our best to make this happen for Sat. Sept 2 and show Level 42 some fun.

BTW I am on Vacation Auug 5th thru the 13th ....I'll be in the Western Caribbean on a cruise ...so I'll check in before this Sat and see how we are making out with this

Back on-topic: Sounds great to me, but shame Paul can't make it then. I'm pretty flexible, so sept 2 is fine with me.

If it will be sept. 2 we'll probably drive up there from Drury and back. Since that's almost a 4 hours drive, I guess we'll spend a night at Weirs Beach or neighborhood. Any suggestions for a motel/hotel B&B ?

I think we will book a place to stay the night in Weirs Beach (any suggestions ??) so the boose is fine with me :D (But not absolutely neccesary of course)...

It will probably be a bit harder (although I assume I will have some Internet access) to stay in touch when I'm in the US. I will bring my GSM phone, but I doubt it will work in the region where I will be staying.
For the record: We will leave Holland on tuesday 29th of August.

I will provide as much contact info as needed to the people who are coming.

It will be hard to actualy meet-up I guess.....should I wear a red rose ? :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Sorry about that, was just kidding really, I understand, 6 hours of driving is a lot. I will have to drive almost 4 hours, but I will stay the night at Weirs beach. And it's about as close as I will ever be to the best classic arcade collection I'll ever be so it's worth every penny for me. I'd never forgive myself if I didn't do it while being so close to it :D

P.S. The Civic is a nice car. I drove an Accord Tourer for a while (a Stationcar, can't find it on the US Honda site ? Don't they sell it there ?? http://honda.nl/content/car/18296_42062.html
Amazing car. It was a Diesel, but you could never tell and the power of the engine was formidable. Nice driving car, but they are freaking expensive here.

Anduhmmmmm, those Funspot coupons, how do they work ? I read that when you pay $20,- in one go you will pay $0,16 per token. So is that coupon adding those 50 free tokens on top of that ?

If my calculations are right that would give you 125+50=175 tokens for 20 bucks........
That's a lot......even for a desperate fanatic from Europe who hasn't seen any of these classics either never before or not for a VERY long time :D

When you do that they let you use a specific token machine to change your $20 bill... that machine puts out the larger token amount. It IS a huge amount and you won't be able to use them all. They're like eleven cents each at that point. Many of the machines at Funspot have credits in them half the time already, plus people leaving will just hand folks tokens rather than take them home.

When we were there last month I couldn't finish a $20 coupon batch between myself, my wife, and my two kids. In three hours.

Don't think I'll needd them all.....amazing they still make profits there.

I saw there's also another arcade there Half Moon, they also got a reasonable amount of classics. In fact, I searched my TomTom for amusement stuff here, and I was amazed at the number of arcades even here in the area........I found a Namco Cyberstation......triggered my curiousity. But I can't be over-anxious.....I'll just hold my horses until Weirs Beach :D

Got the 175 tokens for 20 bucks, and it took us 3 hours (first day) and another hour (next day) to use them all :D

Well for me there were almost TOO many classics.....you get itchy because you fear maybe you dont have enough time to play them all :D

First feelings: the DK, Pac Man etc. cabs have become smaller over time.........or maybe I'm just a little bigger then when I played cabs like Ms. Pac Man and DK :laugh:

High points:
-Asteroids......what a fantastic game in it's true vector glory !!!!
-Ms.Pac Man, of course I had to honour my favorite game by playing it first. One of the cabs had a bad sound, didn't play the bass sounds, weird.
-Robotron, now THAT's the way to play it ! My muscles stil hurt.
-Q-bert.......it just feels better on a real cab.Shame that the cocktail doesn't have the knocker !!!! And shame they don't have the stand-up cab there.

All in all it was great fun !!!

Shame I didn't get to meet any of you guys though....

It was nice that there were almost no people around, but it would have been cool if some people would have watched when I broke all those world records there ;) ;) ;)
