I've been using Pegasus for years but have been taking a hard look at Thunderbird.
I've set others up with this when installing new systems but a deterent to myself has always been importing my old mail. I think I can do that now by eporting out to mbox format which Thunderbird will import.
One additional item that is needed is the ability to manage multiple profiles/identities....I operate more than one business and I keep all my mail seperate.
In Pegasus, I simply "switch users". Is similar functionality available in Thunderbird? I've done some reading but didnt see this question/feature recited.
Thanks in advance to all those in the know.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Global_Inbox
You can choose to have all or only some of your POP accounts use the Global Inbox, as you wish. Each account that does not use the Global Inbox will have its own set of folders, including its own Inbox, displayed in the folders pane. Accounts that do use the Global Inbox will not have their own folders displayed in the folders pane; instead, all you will see is the single set of folders in Local Folders.
There's more info on that page.

Here's what mine looks like. Each email sends through itself. If I reply to one sent to sales@, my response comes from sales@. No need to switch users if you want to send from another email address. You just do it. You can also have any folder ie: Local Folder be your dump box for multiple email addresses.
At least that's how it seems to work, I haven't actually verified it.

Thanks for the link.
That page states in addition to global inbox settings, multiple accounts can be setup which is what I really need so as outbound may be sent through seperate SMTP servers.
That's only pertinent for one scenario, all my other accounts use same server but that's what I needed to see/read.
Time to work on figuring out import and I'm home free.
