I've been having a little trouble and am a little sold short on the organization of Game Launcher and other such projects, so I was hoping it would be possible for me to create my own front end using flash (since my real programming skills are still at the beginner level). Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to script a button or link that would open a batch file, this way, I could point each link to a specific game.

okay, i got it to work, sort of...by using GetURL, but since it's recognizing it as a URL, it's prompting me every time, which is very annoying. Does anyone know of another way or a way I can get rid of this prompt?

in flash 5 you need to use the fscommand("exec",blah blah) to execute a commandline thing. Very hard to use, poorly documented. Have fun figuring it out. Check deja.com for more info, there might be something there.

is there a newer version of flash that can do this a more practical way? it's about time I upgraded anyway.

I GOT IT I GOT IT I GOT IT! HOORAY! Man, I'm psyched! I'm going to theme my front end after The Bouncing Souls just like my cabinet! Ooh, and there'll be background music and and and...hooray! Thanks Poonga.
Just one more question...does anyone know if there's a line that can be put into a batch file that will set it to full screen before mame starts up? I'm trying to eliminate that windows-y feel.

No, Flash MX does not have that option. Macromedia took it out because they say it is a security issue.
Second, no, there isn't a way to maximize or minimize the command prompt generated from a batch file while running mame.

If you got access to director mx you can embed your flash in it and use director for the dirty stuff of launching files...
the shooting menu in my fe is an embed flash movie...

Agreed... flash is crappy for any high end programming.... switch to director.

works fine for me, i don't need high end, i just need to launch the batch files. thanks anyways. I was thinking about getting director, but flash is working fine for me, so I'll save the cashola.
