Title: Loudspeaker design

Anyone here into loudspeaker design?  I build my subwoofer, that's easy.  The amp had a builtin variable crossover.  Though my receiver has a builtin crossover at 80Hz anyway.  

Anyone know a good site to understand crossovers?  That's the only part (being somewhat electronically challeneged) that I don;t get in building floor speakers.

Before MAME/arcade, that was one of my hobbies.  I'm sure this info is on some sites somewhere, but I always found the Weems manual, http://www.addall.com/New/submitNew.cgi?query=0071348743&type=ISBN&location=&state=&dispCurr=USD, to be extremely helpful.  Inductance/capacitance charts for crossover design is thoroughly covered.  If you can get your hands on a copy (library or otherwise), it is definitely worth reading.

Already have it, had it for about 2 years:)  It's great, but definately not for someone who wants to learn to make them.  Definately for someone who knows something about electronics.  I'm looking for a grounds up introduction.  Also since it is publish date 2000 but alot of the data is from 1990 I was wondering if there were any new advances.

??  I've built MANY crossovers by following that book, I don't understand what you mean that it's not for someone who wants to learn to make them, that's how learned.  You mean you just need basic electronics knowledge, not specific to crossovers?

Using passive components like caps, inductors, & resistors, would certainly be the easiest & simpliest way to make crossovers, not to mention it's also the most common.  I imagine it would be possible to make active ones, too, but that's just adding a bit more complexity that wouldn't be necessary.

I guess what I would really like to now is if there is anything new out there, like a crossover in a can or something:)

I;m thinking if I get a job soon I might make my dad speakers for his stereo.  Hehe, partly because when I get a laptop I am going to rip all of his 45s.  Need to hear them while recording:)

tons and tons of good info here on design and such. Many examples, authors websites, etc. Will take some time to dig but sooo much info to go through.
