How does one change the keys for thi emulator? I read the manual and it looks pretty static of what keys are used. Anyone have an idea? I am not very good at compiling.
I wanted to use the standard mame key map config.

I wish I would have had the sense to ask this same question.
Instead I set up MAME to use the Stella keys. And now with new versions of MAME coming out every other week it's getting a little frustrating.
If Stella can't be changed, is there another emulator for Windows that can be?

I think I could possibly change the code and recompile. I know you can change the keys with ARCADEOS for Stella but I dunno howto do it with running the windows emulator. If I choose to recompile what keys should I choose to change the difficulty/reset/etc.... I think the 1 key should be for start and etc... Any ideas before I attempt a recompile?

If you want to keep your key changes from mame version to mame version, use the ctrlr/ini files! These are text editable files you set outside of mame, and are designed to be forward compatable. Works with the mame, dmame, and mame32 releases. (started around v.60 for mame/mame32, and v.63 for dmame)
Read docs/ctrlr.txt that comes with mame for more details, and http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu/mamecontrolini.htm for a good example.

You could remap your keboard keys using ZD net's totally free Tradekeys2 utility available at the website below:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,19645,00.asp
You will probably have to copy the address above & paste it in your address bar for it to work.
You can use this application to make your mame specific controls compatable with any emulator or game.
I can't think of any reason that you would not be happy with Tradekeys2.
It actually allows you to save different keymap profiles.
I've created one for Z26, one for Stella, one for Impact (yes I know that Impact already allows you to configure keys however coin 1, player 1, & fire 2 are not configurable to the corresponding mame keys), one for MK4 PC version, etc...
It is also claims to be compatible with Win2k & XP, though I have only tested it in 98se.
Hope this helps...

Are you able/willing to share a compiled version (assuming you mapped to mame-esque keys)?
Thanks,

Mine's mapped to my (old) control panel... I suppose I can hack it to read from a config file... Let me take a peek and see what would be involved...
