Does anyone know where I can find some Donkey Kong 3 art? I especially would like the control panel overlay art, but can't seem to find it in any of the usual spots. If anyone could help I'd much appreciate it.
Thanks!

yeah, I need the same thing, I need a high quality image/scan of the DK3 CPO so I can modify it for a 6-button layout. Anyone have this? Thanks.

I'll say it again and plenty others will agree. Classicarcadegrafix quality is horrible.

I've been following that ebay auction, it sounds as if the bezel is in pretty rough shape though.
If I were to buy it, (maybe this is a stupid question) how would I go about scanning something like a bezel?

What makes it horrible exactly? Pixelated? I'd like some opinions please.
Thanks!

Use a HP SCANJET 4600 or 4670 See-Thru Scanner and then have pics stitched together. You can pick them up pretty cheap. However, if it's only going to be a one off scan, try to find a printing place (or such like) with a large scale or industrial scanner.
-
If someone has the BEZEL and they can scan it, I'll definately vectorise it and UL it to the library.
Thats my offer....now anyone wish to provide me with the scans I can then get cracking...
This will benefit MAME artwork, the library and DK3 repros.

I've got a bezel on the way and already have a marquee. I'll see if my brother can scan them this weekend. I may buy one of those control panels as well, thanks spriggy!

Hey guys! I actually just picked up a Donkey Kong 3 machine a few days ago AND own a Scanjet 4670, so I can do some scans of the bezel and control panel for the resident vectorizers. I'll try to get that done tonight and I'll let you know how it turns out.
Cool to see others interested in this unique, awesome, art. :)

Excellent bobbyconover! A further favour when you scan the CPO, if I may? Can you please measure(as accurate as possible) the CPO overlap on both ends and on the rear of the panel. I'll add these measurements to the overall overlay to keep it original. (see pic)
Cheers again.
#edit# bc, could you also please accurately measure the width of the cpo (should be very close to 22.5")... for accurate scaling after the vector trace is completed. thanks.

wilef. If your brother is able, he might want to scan the marquee.. so we're not doubling up on scans. ta.
Great to see quick multiple feedback for this nice artwork... Let's hope DK3 replicas will start rearing their head soon! ;)

Ad_Enuff. I'll probably color match my CPO trace with zorg's DK3 side art from the AAL, to keep color consistancy... unless there's huge discrepencies... then I'll pm zorg to get some info on his original source.
fyi

The original source is mine! Zorg kindly vectorised my BMP I created and forensically restored. The colours I used were from TAFTA becuase Nintendo used to use its Sideart for marketing purposes and therefore FLYERS had the artwork on them.
Of course, if someone can get more accurate colours by some other means that woudl be cool.
-
I'm working on the scans right now, should 300 DPI be enough?

Sorry for stealing your thunder Ad_E. ;) The colors sound fine to me!

That would be great.

No offence taken, its a very valid question!
Mahuti and Zorg asked the same question ie where did I get the colours from and gave the same answer which both agreed seemed the best idea.

Alright, here's what I've got:
The control panel overlay is 10 7/8" measured from top to bottom (and around the bends), and 22 5/16th inches wide.
The bend in the blue (upper) area of the overlay is 1 and 1/16th inches from midway through the first bend of the control panel to the top edge of the overlay.
The bend in the red (lower) area of the overlay is 1 and 9/16th inches from midway through the first bend of the control panel to the bottom edge of the overlay.
Here are the scans. Sorry about the "banding," it seems to be an inherent and unavoidable problem with these 4600 series scanners. I hope I did the stitching well enough -- it was my first attempt at it and I spent a long time trying to get it right:
http://www.libblerabble.com/scans/CPO.psd
http://www.libblerabble.com/scans/bezel.psd
The individual bezel scans are also in there, so if the stitching isn't satisfactory you can grab those and see what you can do with them. I'm probably going to try to do a vector of these myself, but since I've never done one before I think one of you guys should do the "official" vector for the archives. I just figured it wouldn't hurt to make my own attempt for practice. :)
Hope these scans help! Let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Downloading teh bezel as I type....all 89Mb of it! ;D

Thanks bobbyconover. Good work on the dims. I'm @ work now, so I'll download the files when I get home (2am) or when I get up.
Excellent.
Enjoy yours Ad_Enuff! :)
#edit# Downloaded the CPO file when I got home. Good work bc! Very nice source file.

You'd never have known it was your first. Well done!
;D
It begins....

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention something (which may be obvious) -- the "This Donkey Kong 3 Game is authorized by Nintendo of America" sticker in the upper-left section of the bezel is just that, a sticker. The vector should probably just have the solid red color across that area.
Good luck!

I've added a scan of the marquee to the site, in case anyone wants to do a vector of it along with the others. You can grab it here:

The ellements used in the CPO are obviously also used on the marquee... hence, as is in some cases, I should? be able to use these cpo ellements for the marquee and accurately re-align any paths that are incorrect.
I've downloaded the marquee and will trace it after the CPO... that is if someone else doesn't start it before me. :)
Cheers and thanks for the scans.

And here I just gone done scanning in the marquee (so as to be able to contribute something to this thread, seeing as I started it) and when I go to post it you beat me to it :)
