I am (re)creating a Tron panel w/ an authentic Tron joystick. Is it worth it to put another joystick along with the spinner for other games? My joy options are : Xenophobe joy, WICO leaf(4/8way), HAPP 8way(super/comp).
I figured since the Tron joy was not an actual 8-way that combining it for games like battle zone would not feel right. A 4-way might be useful but I'm thinking of buttons for spinner games as well(left and right handed).
The panel dimensions are 26.75"x13"
Thoughts/Opinions?
Thanks.

Since you specifically mention Battlezone, the Xenophobe stick might be a good match, give you two trigger sticks with the same feel. Battlezone used two-way sticks, but there's no reason you can't play it with your triggersticks. It would also be a better match for Discs of Tron, which needs a thumb button, and used a regular 8-way restrictor, rather than the special almost-4-way restrictor on your Tron Stick.
But for almost any other games, those trigger sticks are less than optimal. A regular balltop or bat-top will give you much better results for Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, whatever. Depends on which games you want this control panel to play, I guess.

Most of the "dual triggerstick" games used 2-way sticks, but will play just fine with 4-ways, 8-way, or a mix of the two. (Battlezone/Vindicators/Sarge)
Some of them require thumb buttons on both sticks. (Sarge/Vindicators)
The notable exception to this is Assault, which used two 4-way triggersticks.
That one is nearly unplayable with 8-way sticks, as it hangs on any diagonal input.
I would, and did, go with the Xeno Stick/Tron Stick combo.
The only changes I made were to add a right-side thumb button to the Tron stick, and a straight handle (to replace the forward-leaning one) on my DOT stick.
The sticks feel really funny if one leans forward, and the other doesn't.

add two thumb buttons and new faceplate to your tron

ponyboy got the parts for me.
also a Pac man, ms Pac man actuator will fit a tron stick, turns it into true 4 way
parts above fit very well in a tron stick
also a Pac/ Ms pac leafs will fit a tron perfectly. Mine was missing 2 leafs.
I replaced them from a super Pac CP I bought off Ebay. Got the CP and 4 leafs for $20.00 shipped to my door
everyplace else wanted $8.00 a leaf plus shipping.
Xeno Stick's have more of a bend in them than a Tron does.
they look wrong side by side. (tried it) even with new handles on both
I went and bought another Xeno Stick to have two matching side by side.
good luck on your project. Hope I helped
PS you are safe from me bidding on Xeno Stick's, I only wanted 2 and have them.
kinda rare find on ebay. Took me almost 1 year to win 2 at my price I wanted to spend

I like playing Vindicators with my Discs of Tron joystick and my LS-30. I can rotate the turret with the LS-30 while firing with the Tron.

uh oh... i was hoping to be able to play tank games with a happ heavy-duty 8-way flight stick (which has the forward lean) for the right hand and a happ rotary (which is a short vertical stick) for the left hand. perhaps it was a bad assumption that this would work ok.
is it possible to put a vertical grip in the happ 8-way? if so, what would be the best way to go about it?

It will WORK OK, but may FEEL funny.
I've actually used a mix of this and that at different times on my modular panels, all of which work, but feel different from each other, or less than optimal.
The Happ rotary is going to feel different than either of the triggersticks, so I would worry about swapping the handle out.
It's just really weird feeling to have the SAME stick in both hands, canted at different angles.

If you can find a used Tron stick, or Gorf stick, that's missing alot of parts, it SHOULD be a straight swap on the Happ handle.
I've never actually done that particular combination; but, to the best of my knowledge, the specs on the Happ handle are identical to the Xeno sticks--with the exception of the switches on the bottom.
The forward-leaning ones are cheaper and easier to find, and work fine for Tron, so going with two of those is the easier way to go, if you want matching sticks.
The thumb buttons are also easier to use on the forward leaning sticks, than they are on the upright ones.
